Maybe contact the Mackay Gem & Craft Society. These types of clubs often have a percentage of members that also detect.
If your interested in gems &/or lapidary then it might be interesting regardless?

On my way up to Georgetown/Forsythe now probably be there prospecting until September. Usually catch up with the club at their monthly outings so I'll see you at one - no doubt.
