Hi all,
I'm a new to this site and detecting. Only been out a few times with SDC 2300. Finding plenty of shot etc, no gold but happy to put in the time before getting any rewards. Was up along Hendricksons Track last week and noticed stacks of green plastic bags filled with soil? and placed neatly about in the bush near the road. Can anybody please fill me in on what these are and why are they left there.
Thanks.

Thanks for the welcome Ramjet, been sucking up as much info as possible from this site, really enjoying the friendly atmosphere. The bags were all heavy duty see-through green, about twice the size of supermarket bags. They were stacked up neatly in different sized groups close to the road in open view near old diggings. I was wondering if it was somebody or company bagging up soil to wash and test away from the area?

Could be... check on GEOVIC - there just might be a current Exploration Licence covering that area ;)

I think your right.

Was up that way last year with a friend who
Knows the area and some locals and told me about
some possible mining leases Up that way near the
intersection of mud hut tk and hendricksons track.

I think there are some drill test holes on the right
Side of hendricksons tk up on the hill.

I stand to be corrected though.

That would be my guess, I worked as a 'support tech' (driver!) for a geo exploration co for a while and it sounds like the way they bag up the 'spoils' from the RC drilling. If you look about a bit there is probably a 4 or 6 inch plastic pipe in the ground nearby, thats how they used to cap off the drill hole

Thanks all, yeah that's what i was thinking (it looked pretty professional) and didn't want to go nosing around on private lease area. It was up just before the intersection wolfau, so your info looks to be spot on.

Just a tip for you. Entering blacksmith gully rd from the
maryborough end drive in just as you pass the creek
On the left and you pass the farmers paddock side then
It turns to bush there is a heap of surfacing on the left
Side. Its where clubs camp.

Try these Spots with the 2300.

There is lots of small bits around surfaced areas.

Good luck with it.

I really appreciate that info Wolfau, thankyou. Was out again yesterday, stacks of nails and shot etc. so i feel as though will detect the gold if i swing over it. Still trying to get my head around the terrain so that i'm confident i'm not working areas that are too deep for the 2300 or not likely to produce. Was up around the top end of Blacksmiths Gully (near the reefs) yesterday and it looks like it's had 100 detectors over it in the very recent past. Trying to find areas that are surfaced without getting the feeling they have been worked to death by others. Once i get more experience of what to look for i'll head off bush a bit more, away from the crowds.

I was down that way yesterday maybe I did bump into you as I drove past.

There were a couple of campers in a Caravan near the middle of blacksmith gully rd.

The sdc 2300 can find bits that are like 1.5mm in diameter. My eyes popped after seeing how tiny
the nuggets were. It does not matter where but focus on areas that have been surfaced because
a lot of this small gold has been missed and its the speciality of the 2300. Surfaced areas generally
can be seen on Google Maps. These do not have much shrub growing around them and the ground is
orange in colour.

Where abouts do you live?

Are you from Melbourne or around the Triangle.

Drive an older model maroon defender 110. I now live at Canadian in Ballarat. After i did near the reefs, i drove over the bigger track to a surfaced? (very orange area) to the east of that area and just to the right of the Settling Pond Dam. I did the scrub to the side of the orange area, should i have done the orange area itself?

Thats a good area.

Yes work on the orange areas and its better if its done in the morning compared
to late afternoon.

The ground itself is a good indicator if its shallow or deeper.

If its shallow normally plant life struggles to grow due to the hard ground.

You may find there are tiny bits of qaurtz in the ground. Detect these areas first.

Hi Wolfau, I don't detect but appreciate you putting such generous advice out there.

Thanks casper, it's my pride and joy, warts and all. My wife reckons i pay more attention to it than i do her. No further comment on that thought!!

Thanks Casper for your kind comments. Hopefully Scrounger finds his first bit soon.

Thanks from me as well. Really appreciate you sharing some of this info.

Totally agree casper. Wolfau has been great help and i'm super impressed with how helpful and friendly everyone on the site is.
As a newbie i was hesitant to say anything but i've been made to feel very welcome. Cheers all.
