Tinitus, I remember hearing something about that, I don't hear much about it anymore. I thought it was just the 4500 singing along....No can't be, I can still hear it.

I helped my brothers building a few of these boats back in the 70's. My job was the installation of the plumbing and mechanical components inside while they were outside slamming wedges with hammers to pull the plate into shape. No sign of muffs and ear plugs those times you just did your best to block it out and get on with the job.

Appart from a little constant and varying ringing in the ears I get by ok. Last season I felt my age (64) a bit more so instead of swinging the 14" Elite coil I changed to the 11" Commander and found it a lot easier. I get a chest pain after a few hours swinging the heavy coil but the light weight coil made life a lot easier and I don't think I missed too much gold by making the change.

Mrs M is suffering psoriatic arthritis so is finding it more difficult to handle the rough terrain. We bought a little Honda quad to help her make it out and back but the main thing is to try to avoid the cold climate. Luckily there's a bit of gold in the north ;)

Food choices definitely make a big difference. We do our best to avoid a lot of meat, potatoes, tomatoes and all those things that they tell us about. One good meal of those forbidden foods and she's down and out for a day or so.

Not long turned 50,have Barrett's Eosophagus from terrible reflux, bad eyesight and have been experiencing some discomfort around the sternum area lately.Went to the doctor today about the discomfort and have another appointment tomorrow for a blood test and appointment next Friday for an ultrasound.Doctor seems to think it has something to do with the reflux.Hope he is right,I have been worrying it was the ticker. Also get a bit stiff in the legs after a detecting session, from all the kneeling to dig targets ,anyone do a little warmup before detecting?
Geez, the way we are all going we should build a nursing home specifically for old prospectors in the Golden Triangle somewhere where we can detect and pan until we drop. The nurses could follow us around and dig our targets.
Forgot to mention, also have tinnitus, can't sleep without a fan going beside me just to drown out the ringing, wife hates it in the winter.

There are a lot of guys our age suffering from no OH&S back in those days.

I am also limited. I am 73 . I have af, copd and a triple bypass, bad back and hips, bad knee's ,muscle wastage a little bit, suffer depression and ptsd. I admit I carry to much belly fat. But am trying to loose it. I am not in very good nick but try to get some exercise each day to help me. Copd is the new term , the old is emphysema and chronic bronchitis. Used to drink and smoke way to much back in the day.

Eldorado, I had bad reflux for a long time, till I stopped eating acid forming foods and
concentrated on alkalising my system, mainly by drinking alkaline water and eating the right diet.
It took awhile, but I can now enjoy a coffee without the afterburn. :Y:

Just read an opposing view.
30 bruised chillies (without the seeds showing at all) put into a bottle of brandy for three weeks to soak. Remove chillies... and have three teaspoons full a day of the chillie brandy liquid to ease the symptoms of arthritis. ...
Mrs S liked the sound of it, but recons a cup and a half each day would be better for her (ha) ]:D

I gotta try that!!!

Tried all the eating this and not eating that thing for first colitis an then arthritis. I have to say for the colitis , changing diet did nothing. Three years later just doing what I do its cleared up and havent had a problem for over 12 months so diet did nothing. Arthritis well nothing really works for me but just try to keep moving. Some days are good some are bad so I just take it as it comes. Bit of a worry sometimes with the back as Ive got a fair way to go yet but its hereditory so is what it is.
Just try to enjoy what you can and revel in the good times. :)

Yep, Eldorado, I have reflux too (which I forgot to mention above), but dont have Barretts Eosophsagus, which is not good. Hope it goes well with the tests, mate.
Thanks for the well wishes Doc,I do take Nexium everyday which keeps the reflux under control,I couldn't eat anything without reflux before Nexium.

from experience , you can't plan out your life, I had a life plan, but , it went hay wire, 8 years ago went to see the Doc , your pulse is all over the shop, had any chest pains, nope, heart rate 44 bpm at rest down to 33 bpm when asleep, well thank me for private health insurance , 5 days later pacemaker installed now the old ticker is banging away at 60 bpm, not assisted by the pace,r it kicks in when it drops below 60 bpm, ok now a life style change no handyman stuff using the welder , then I get pain in the lower back generalised, the end result , mate your hips are stuffed, left hip done then the Doc says wait till the right one plays uo , that took 4 years but I was useless for 8 months, symptom an acute pain in the groin and back, thats the hip worn put bone on bone , abducter muscles was the pain, had the hip done last november no more pains but it takes s long time to recover , walk with a limp subconcience at work, much gym work and pool exercises muscles still not fully rebuilt , so whats the operation like, put you to sleep , roll you on your side cut the muscles down the top side of your leg put your foot behind your ear so the can cut the bone and get at your leg bone to cut the ball drive in a peg , grind out the hip socket gles and screw a new plate in there so now we have a new ball and socket , pretty bloody graphic description ,,,but let me tell you this a bit of inconvenience for mobility , if you got a heel spur get it removed , worn out knees get them replaced , private health insurance is a godsend , not sure about the public system but rumour has it you gotta bung it on the pain cant move by pass triage then they won't let you out until they can be sure they have met their commitments discharging you early my be costly for them but you have to bung it on or else you will be waiting
if you have any symptoms that you never has before go see the DOC BEFORE ITS TOO LATE We don't need to suffer as I get older and older all I can do is hope I don't get one of them issues that cant be fixed , life can be cruel live life to the max if old age don't get you then Centrelink will,,,,,, LOL

Ha,
Just about to turn 60-
Eyesight is stuffed, and need a new prescription as I keep lifting the multi focals to look through the bottom bit with high magnification.
Overall my problems are not too bad!

Hey DD, just get your lenses replaced.
I did a few years back and have perfect vision from around 4' to the horizon. Only need glasses for reading now, and your prescription will never change.
One of the best things that I ever did for myself.
