Parkes Radio Telescope . The Dish . and EMI interference

Has anyone found high levels of EMI ( interference ) when detecting around Orange / Parkes / Cadia area etc ?

just wondering if " The Dish " causes any issues for detectors

does that thing still operate ?

The dish is a receiver only doesn't emit anything. If it did emit anything it would be in a tightly focussed beam. I detected around Orange and didn't have any EMI issues when I was there. I believe there has been some sun activity of late that could cause flaring in the threshold. Also keep in mind that a thunderstorm a couple of hundred k's away will spike the threshold on a PI too.

I have heard of people having trouble with interferance because of planes.
There is a airport 5ks out of parkes on the orange road. That might become a problem if your to close.
