Hi All ..... I was looking around the net and found this about Nugget Gerry Skilton bsp2. I found the clip really interesting and would like to know if anyone knows more about what he is doing. Even though I'm a girl I'm captivated by the small scale mining lifestyle, I'm guessing it's hard work but it's interesting to me. He looks like he's been doing it a while and when I tried looking him up it said he was in Crocodille Dundee, I guess he's filming his own stuff now ( wonder if he needs some help lol ). I would post the Youtube clip but I'm too new and can't yet do that, so if you type the above, Nugget Gerry Skilton bsp2 it should come up. Hope you find it as interesting as I did :)

Old mate at Milparinka has a similar trommel 3/4 made on his back porch- the dimensions are nearly identical, but no ball jig- I'll have to put him on to that. Great vid ta blokes.

Thank you to those who welcomed me to this forum. Like most people on here me and my husband love the gold shows on tele. We love to see how they are processing the gold and the dirt. I find it very interesting that it appears very different here in Australia. They talk more about black sand and the roundness of their river gravels in the American shows. When I watch Australian videos like the one above or the ones on this forum like Reedy Creek it appears there is a huge difference in the soils being washed. For one, the gravels do not look as smooth or as rounded in Aussie, is this because our creeks and gullies are not as old?
Black sand does not appear to be as prevalent in the concentrate here.
It seems we have more clay content in our soils, also I guess this is because their soils spend more time underwater than ours. I have gone back to check if this is just a figment of my imagination but it does seem to be the case. What do you think ?

Hi GR
I have found in Qld that gold is found in all different rock types..granite quartz and sandstone most commonly with ironstone. Im still working it out so to speak...
The best gold i have found has been in old river wash"rounded rocks" typically suspended in clay.
Most places i try have been hit by the old timers so you cant really follow any rule for chasing it.
Hence every state has different indicators....
