Hi Everyone,

I have traditionally been a detectorist but have just started learning panning. I have been to a spot on the torrens but was wondering what you guys and girls do to find new spots? Don't worry I am not asking for your spot, more trying to figure out where we can and can't pan. I get SA Water land, National and Conservation parks are out. But can we pan any road side creeks, around bridges and culverts etc?

Have any of you had success on private land and if so how did you go about asking the owner.

Thanks very much, I appreciate any info shared.

I think technically its only the three locations here in SA for us. Which means if you want to pan carrying water and a tub in unless there is any ground water. Personally i have tried with a hand cart and water containers and a flexi-tub. Its a bit of work!

Otherwise it is private property which requires land owner permission. I haven't tried this yet, sounds too difficult.

From energy mining website (i cant post links yet)

Euchunga goldfields
Fossicking is permitted on the Chapel Hill (Old Echunga+++And currently closed for temp maintenance) and Jupiter Creek diggings near Echunga - these diggings are located on Historic Reserves controlled by the Government of South Australia's Department for Energy and Mining.

Gumeracha goldfields
Permits for fossicking at the Watts Gully Diggings in the Mount Crawford Forest Reserve must be purchased online before fossicking in that area.

Purchase an annual (valid for 12 months from date of purchase) or daily permit via the ForestrySA website. Note that hard copy permits are no longer availalbe from the Mount Crawford Forest Information Centre, and fossickers are no longer required to display their permit.

Good luck and let me know if you come up with any other tips for this.

Thanks very much for that. So I emailed tge department for energy and mining asking if we can pan on creeks and rivers not in the 3 main fossicking areas and outside of sa water and national parks etc. This was the reply which os quite encouraging I think.

"Yes you can go panning in creeks that arent on private properties, if you do go on private property youll need landowners permission.

You can go panning or fossicking on beaches, parks etc but not in Conservations Parks or Reserves. However you can get a permit from the Forestry Department for the Mount Crawford Forest in the Adelaide Hills."

Hi thanks for the info. Interesting have to overlay the national parks and SA Water locations to see where we cant go but there might be one or two creeks then available. Most of the interesting ones look to be on private land or those no go areas though.
Would be interested to see what you find
Cheers
