Not sure if anyone has a post thread like this, but I thought you would get a kick out of this story.
I recently became interested in gems (fossicking, cabbing, faceting), and decided to practice testing stone to work out what they were. I figured it would be handy to be able to test crystals and work out if they were glass, CZ, real, or something else entirely. This all started When I was in an op shop, looking at their jewellery to pass the time while my friend was looking at other items. I found this sweet little pendant, saw it had hallmarks showing it was silver, and thought, gee that stone is pretty, it would be fun to test it and see what it is, get some practice.
So after testing hardness, specific gravity, and visual, and all my results said it was sapphire. Not believing this to be true, I went to a jeweller and asked them to test it, and confirmed it was a sapphire.
Not bad for $3 in a Salvos!
