Hi all, to start with let me tell you I have the mechanical aptitude of a house brick.
The forum has lots of blokes with all sorts of expertise so hopefully some one can help me out here.

I have had a Peerless Eaca 10 air compressor behind my garage at home for over 20 years.
I have never cleaned it, just gave it some oil every 5 years or so and it runs very nicely.
Over that time it has pumped up every football / netball / kids bikes from the neighborhood.

It has a working pressure of 1100 kpa.

Over the last few years it has been taking longer to get the pressure up, and I could hear it leaking.

I now need it to step up and run a framing gun so the 'leak' has to go.

It appears to be coming from within a box which houses the electrical connections.
I have marked where it is coming out.

What is this part and it looks adjustable?
Any help appreciated

Ta mate, I had a poke around there and sent them an email but no cigar.

I don't know this model of compressor but I think the picture shows pressure switch and the switch is either faulty or you have air leak under the box, where the pressure switch is screwed to the air tank. In most of cases you have to replace whole pressure switch assembly.

Ta mate, here is an overall pic, and the location of the 'switchbox"

Does not leal underneath the box, just where the arrow is.

This might be something you've already done but have you checked and tightened that clamp with a screwdriver / replaced the clamp on the hose going to the tank as it's directly under the control box so the leaking air could sound like it's coming out of the box?

After lunch will fire it up and fill, then turn it off to use soapy water and a paintbrush to "spot" it.

Might be a simple o ring that needs replacing under the assembly. When the tank is empty , unscrew it and have a look. Rubber seals perish over time but are cheap to replace.

Good luck with it

Matt

I would also get onto the manufacturer re an inspection. There maybe regulations in force particularly that your compressor has a receiver, that require it to be inspected/checked every 2 years.

1100kpa is about 160PSI and if your tank has a problem, it's a BOMB waiting to explode.

I'm originally a Toolmaker by trade and a Mechanical Designer by profession (retired) and I don't want to sound like a harbinger of doom, but I've seen an oxy cylinder take off like a torpedo through a factory wall and a hydraulic bleed screw shoot past a guys ear and through the factory roof.

A bit of oil every 5 years is not what I would recommend for high pressure equipment...........

That is the pressure switch that turns the compressor off when it is at pressure it can be adjusted or replaced but be carefull as it has been stated if the vessel is old they can go bang
Undo the nut but count exactly how many turns and replace the seal and repeat procedure if you try and increase the pressure the safety valve will blow off but the electric motor may fail or the compressor valves may fail
If you need more pressure that this can produce you will need to buy a new compressor i would set it at around 100 psi or max 110 psi

The Duck is right onto it Redfin, you can strip that part down and replace all the wearing parts (rubber/nothalane/nylon)
seals that are incorporated in that pressure switch, all else fails i have 2 equal pressure commpressors lying on the shed floor from a failed DIY hoisting system that left me shatterd and disgusted with myself, and would gladly donate one of those switches to you ;) ..........(muttering to myself) stupid bloody thing what a piece of s##t cant believe it did that.......

OH yeah, if you do need to replace the seals any hydraulic or pneumatic type store should have no trouble in matching them up.........

Double OH yeah, i purchased a Black Ridge twin cylinder single phase 18 or 20 cfm compressor from supacheap the other day for $150.00 what a bargin goes good to

Thanks Gents, exactly what I was after.
Will bite the bullet and get a new one.
A tad sad, it has made many sad faces happy over the years.
Thanks to all.

Thats funny DWT, just looking at the combo they have on special for $209 right now

Pssst, hey Redfin, those cylinders make excellent mini trommels ;).......
Like dwt said, they make a great mini trommell.
Dont look at is as scrap. Just give it a new purpose in life.... :)
I bought a small compressor from Repco over 10 years ago for $99 back then just because my lungs couldnt keep up with all the kids toys that needed attention. It started to leak oil a few years ago but still runs. Its bound to spit the dummy soon and its new replacement cost just isnt that much in the scheme of things. But I tell you what, that cylinder is just waiting for a transformation.

Off to Flea bay with it unless someone here wants to come and get it for a few frothies. :p

I think you'll find its nowhere near 18cfm. Probly closer to 5 or6 cfm and around 150 - 160 L/Min free air delivery :)

Yeah right, thought i was buying a 18-20 cfm im guessing the guys at the local supacheap stiched me up, might have to go back in and have a polite chat. I will have to take in the above info you have given me, thanks Creekbed. ;)
