Nsw hi New to site

Hi everyone new to forum and new to everything.

My name is Claudio and am located in nsw.

Thanks for letting me be part of this.

Now I have some questions. :lol:

Am about to take the journey in to prospecting, witch I need a license, I have read all about it my concern is am I allow to prospect in like parks? I mean like national parks etc?

Now about the sluicing box what's the good start? Is the length matter, Tiers etc?

I am gonna custom build everything as I am a DIY guy .

My other concerns are as I want to start I am thinking to start electric? Battery power? Or should I upgrade to petrol water pumps?

And of the question that I have for all of you
I would like to prospect creeks rivers etc.

And to breath under water I was thinking to hook up my new air pump that does around 60 litres a minute, and I know humans usually breath 7 to 10 a.minute

Any ways I think that's about all my questions for now thanks again lady's and gentleman

Gday mate and welcome! You will have some nsw questions answered shortly but a lit of your answers is already within the forum as well, so don't be afraid to explore the sections thoroughly or use the forum search

Length of a sluice isn't much of a concern, its more the width and most keep it under 10", mine are 8" running a 2.5hp pump.

The choice of petrol or electric both have pros and cons that you will need to decise what's best for you or the area you want to dig. Electrical cables near creeks isn't the best idea in my oppinion.

What do you need to breath under water for? Were not aloud to dredge ( suck with pump - send to sluice ), its banned now, if your thinking that.

By air pump do you mean compressor or hookah?

I didn't know dredging was banned yeah that was my idea of getting gold.

Well with electric I think battery will no last more the. An hr so I am seriously thinking in petrol one they are just 140 on ebay

Well now that I got answers just need to buy water pump and build the sluicing box and I think am done XD for the first time to try XD

No prob mate. Make sure you check out the forum pages with N.S.W rules and regulations. Some areas up there are very picky and what's important is leaving areas tidy and fill in your dug holes to keep prospectors a good name and prevent further banning on more prospecting like sluicing Or panning even.

I bought my pump off ebay for 250 and its still going. From china too!

Yeah, dredging got banned back in 1980 something haha!

Lol they ban everything. In this country 10 years time you will need license to go to public toilets -.- or even license to do BBQ in parks lol government wants more.and more from people but that's the way it is can't do anything about it XD

You will find many of your questions already answered on the forum. The DIY section will help with sluice design. Research is the key.
NSW regs the short version. National parks are out of bounds. State forests require a permit which is available online. There's a link here somewhere.

I live in the USA and we can still dredge in some places in some states, but in some other states dredging has been sorta banned by the states issuing a moratorium on dredging until the "environmentalists" can invent reasons/"studies" that dredging does damage to the environment, but so far all of their so-called "studies" contain mostly wording such as "could", maybe", "possibly", but nothing to date that's scientific, only conjecture and speculation, but they have very deep pockets and seem to be able to keep these moratoriums in place or extended with there "pull", (e.g.money) in government and with their many lawyers, there are many scientific studies that prove otherwise and that dredging does minimum damage if any at all to the streams and wildlife/fish, but of course the environmentalists ignore these studies.

In those places where dredging is forbidden many still use "hookas" for diving in the deeper areas of the stream for digging and cleaning out cracks and crevices where some of the best gold gets trapped.

That all being said, if you decide in the future to use a hooka to get down in the deeper areas, keep in mind that not all air compressors are suitable for supplying air for breathing, only "oil less" compressors will work and are suitable for a hooka/breathing, any compressor that uses oil will create oil fumes in the air supply and cause damage to your health if you breathe the air from these types of compressors, also make sure you only use air hoses rated for breathable air.

You will need a oil less compressor that has a rating of a minimum of 40 PSI (pounds per square inch) and a minimum of 2 CFM (cubic feet per minute) for a single diver down to 20 feet, 2 divers or deeper than 20 feet you will need to go up to around 4 to 6 CFM rating with the same PSI of 40.

For a DIYer the best source for finding a suitable compressor without buying a ready purpose made hooka is the painting industry and medical industry, both of these industries use almost exclusively oil less compressors, for hoses check the medical industry or bite the bullet and buy a air hose made for hookas.

You will also need a air reservoir/tank to keep a ready supply of air available for breathing, if the compressor stops running while you're under water this will give you time to surface without running out of air, most tanks we use or around 2 to 5 gallons in size, I prefer bigger for obvious reasons.

It's also a good idea to have a companion with you topside when diving in case of an emergency, diving can be a very dangerous, especially if you're alone, it's also a good idea to get at least minimally certified in diving so you know the proper way to surface from deeper water among the other hazards when diving.

Yeah unfortunatley NSW national Parks are a no go zone.
Also State Flora reserves and State Conservation areas are off limits.( some of which contain old goldfields unfortunately)

However there is still an abundance of areas to check out.

I wouldn't suggest trying to breathe under water with a normal air compressor. Not cool.
