I've sat my pan underneath to catch anything that may have gotten past guys, I have no pump anymore it got returned to my mate whom I borrowed it off to test out my hb before I bought my own, I'm getting my riffles re made up bcos everything was just getting stuck on the inside edge of them and pretty much creating a torrent behind them I've been fearing I've been losing all the gold for a while now although I never find any in the pan at the end, I've taken out the riffles and am now just using expanded metal, my mat and rubber underlay, I'll certainly lift up the front next time but I find with the expanded mesh it still catches loads of stones but I guess I won't loose anything, this is my mat after pulling off my expanded metal today

. Can anyone tell me if this is an old river bed? Found a tiny bit of gold after working it just with a little bucket but there is like fused bits with gravel and something else I don't know but it could be good to get a crusher and maybe dry blower and possibly a Trummble working through it or I just bring it all back and slowly dolly it up only I've only got the weight for my dolly no handle and no dolly pot

I found black sand riddled throughout it and it's no where near the current river bed level it's way up, presence of gold was promising

That is an old river bed If I've ever seen one mate. If it sits on bedrock anywhere sample it and see what happens. I built a rock crusher just for this type of conglomerate. Your on the right track there :)

In points it intersects quarts vein too, the reason I think it's an old river bed is the rounded quarts, it's been dug at but by someone probably not knowing what they where doing just being a pain in the arse

Thanks mate, I would love to come over there and check it out but there are heaps of people on here closer for starters  and probably much more knowledgeable than I. That white chalky stuff sounds like decomposed bedrock or a false bedrock that the alluvial wash settled on. If there is good gold coming out of it then that is as good a place as any to hit with all you got. One thing to remember though...if its in / on a river or creek bank you can't dig into it or under cut it. If its up the hill side then I think you can attack it but the tricky part is you got to back fill your holes. The old timers used to tunnel in and process anything on top of the bedrock.
By crushing it up and then dryblowing, all in situ it would give you the best chance of getting the gold unless you want to cart it down to a water source for your highbanker.

Looks good mate, all the best with it

It's way, way up from the creek almost in them dam hills ;) it's situated nicely to where I can access it with reasonable ease'ish problem with tunnelling being the surface is only 3-4 metered above false bedrock I'd be afraid of it collapsing unles I took a systematic approach and cleaned all the over hangs first, I'm gonna clean up the mess some fu** wit has done bcos it's gonna endanger me some what I need a safe floor to work on and well may find some gold too, I was thinking of just carting it all home, I need a rock crusher though :-( or something I can smash up this conglomerate somewhat I love the red/brown oxidisation from the ancient creek probably from the terasic era 10.000 years old or so, I wanna follow this quarts vein a little too and see what I can see, I think it's not overly gold bearing but until someone who knows more comes with or I document some more who knows

this sort of stuff is quite common in ballarat and creswick, especially creswick actually, they are high bench deposits mostly silty stuff very fine and flat gold with the odd bit or course, alot of overburden to move before getting any great results but definitely auriferous. the white stuff pipeclay will generally hold the fines and most chunky stuff will sit i the orange clay around those boulders/. if this is creswick and its been hammered i can almost guarantee i know who did it.

Is there anywhere that hasn't already been hammered? Seems I can't find a spot someone hasn't already worked :( I won't give up so easily howeve there are still a bit too look thru. Cheers GD

There must be places around that are untouched or at least left alone for a fair while, but unfortunately for us the old timers beat us to a lot of it by 100 years or so.

There is always "somewhere", but you have to be lucky or smart enough to know where to look. Then having the knowledge and tools/mining equip, have the knowhow to mine it is another challenge. Still, the odds are probably in favour of winning something in lotto..
I'm glad it's only a hobby. :p

"Gave" <- edit gave up on the high bench for now and went back to do some test, all my test except for one failed, I decided to move this fairly large rock took a small scoop and panned this off
