Newby to detecting

Hi there. I've started a trip with detecting as a hobby. Has anyone got some tips about the basics?

Welcome to PA mate, the best advice i can give you is to start reading the posts throughout this forum. That should keep you busy for quite a while and get your head spinning with lots info. And then start asking specific questions as you go after that. There's a lot to learn. good luck.

I've been out having a go the last couple of days around old gold mines. Found lots of metal. I'm a bit confused about the sound of gold?? Any tips welcome
