Hi everyone just getting started have a lot to learn live on Gold Coast but heading up Gympie way tomorrow maybe Kikivan next day still unsure what I need to get going any advice would be greatly appreciated

G'day Chase, welcome to the forum. To be 'legal in Qld you need a fossickers licence...if you google this it will take you to a Qld Govt site where you can do it all on-line.

In Gympie, Deep Creek Fossicking area (map on same website as licence) is the only legal area to fossick.

Mary River - public access areas seem to be off limits for fossicking but I am not sure why.

Be careful at Kilkivan...there used to be a fossicking arrangement at Prophet Gold Mine...$10 per day and you could pan their tailings...but that closed two years ago...there are no other designated fossicking spots at Kilkivan that I am aware of.

I am also a newbie to this hobby and forum but have learned heaps from others. Read everything you can on this forum and ask questions.

What method/means will you use for fossicking...panning/sluicing for alluvial gold or are you a detector man ?

There are heaps of good you tube vids available on all manner of techniques and equipment...just takes time and a healthy data allowance.

When you get 10 posts up on this site you will get other functionality including private messaging and emailing members. That's another way to learn.

Welcome mate, I hope it goes well for you. :)

Thanks MikeBo5
