newbie to prospecting west vic

Hi all I'm new to the whole prospecting scene am located out west vic looking for any info on where to go around here and any help would be much appreciated not quite sure where to start thank you in advance

Hi Michael,

Im a newbie to prospecting to. There is a crazy amount of information in these forums - most questions have been asked so try the search function up the top.
I started searching place names eg when I went to visit a friend out country Vic the closest place to her is Daylesford. Looked at a map and searched names of other places close by and found some really good threads.
People here are really helpful and friendly but no one is going to give away their favorite hunting areas! I have bought a few books in my local secondhand store and happy to look stuff up for you as well. A lot of it is research......

Hi yes there is defiantly a lot of information have mostly been trying to do the research on the internet but going to have to make some time to go to the local library or council I live out in horsham vic about 40km west of stawell so looks I have moved out to the right spot in Victoria just have to try to pinpoint some of the places around here seems that most of the rivers here 5 hat have had gold found are on the ban list though but I'm sure I'll be able to find somewhere to go and try my luck

Welcome to the forum the key is research and the internet can be your friend but i have found old books better as just about everyone has the internet
Thinking outside the square is good but first you must find out how gold is formed and where and how it is distributed so a bit of geology first will save you a lot of wasted time

And also miners rights in victoria are only 17.50 for ten years and if keen come along to a pmav meeting once a month there on at miners den Melbourne look it up. Good luck

Thanks for the info I'll defiantly be getting a miners right and will defiantly look at getting out to one of those meetings I went on ebay and will be getting some of the maps on gold locations when i have some cash hopefully there worth it thankyou again
