Newbie from Cairns

Hi Everyone

I've just joined PA and hoping to get out and do some exploring.
Keen to start off finding some quartz around Cairns I've heard of some good spots up near Kuranda but not sure where to look..
I've also been told to go check out the miners den in Cairns.
Does anyone have any more helpful infomation for me?

welcome to the forum and prospecting in the far north.
If you can, drop into our next meeting on August 20th at the miners den. You should be able to pickup a better idea of things there and can ask some of these questions in person even though most of us from the forum are gold chasers.
The miners den should be your first stop for some gear.
As for quartz, how much do you want? Theres truckloads of it all around cairns and the tablelands. Its in just about every creek and river and pops up out of most of the hills surrounding the city.
Itd be best to go a little west of kuranda and away from the national parks to find something. Just be wary of rivers and creeks to close to the coast, some are croc territory.
