New to this! Locations?

Hey guys and girls,

My gf and I are brand new at the fossicking scene and were after some locations around Victoria that are best to find gemstones eg/ Quartz, smoky, amethyst, citrine ect. I've researched around and heard Mooralla, Beechworth and Mortlake are good spots. I was wondering if there is any locations closer than that as I'm from the northern suburbs, near Hurstbridge which is a trek :lol:

Super keen to get out there on our first dig so any info at all would be great!
