new to cairns any help appreciated

Hoping to make some new friends on here. Me and my son would like to get started in prospecting around cairns area and travel further if needed. Not to sure on the law licences, legality of sluices high bankers in queensland, so any advice or direction much appreciated. Looking at panning and sluicing

Lets see....you need a fossicking license, high bankers seems to be a grey area....but no actual complaints yet I believe, but what I am aving trouble with is exactly where in FNQ it is legal to go!
but I'll get there!
I'm also a "newb" so I'm sure you will get more and better advise from the "old hands"

Welcome gmayell, make your first stop the miners den on anderson st. George can fix u up with a licence for you and your boy as well as some gear to get u started. Are you interested in panning or detecting for gold?

welcome to the forum, and welcome to cairns
there are a few places around, where gold can be panned, quite close to home
then heading just out of town, you will have more luck with the gold
i moved up to cairns, just over a year ago, and research is the key
i will be home this weekend, if you want to go for a scratch around
