Hi all forum members,

My name is Sean 35 year old male and this is my new hobby.

I purchased a CTX3030 couple of weeks ago from miners den in Parramatta the service and knowledge was unbelievable. I have been on about 3 hunts in my local area and happily found 8.( 1c, 2c, 10c, 20c and allot of pull tabs, cans , 1 dog tag, sunglasses and couple of washers and bolts from an old bridge.

Metal detecting is not as easy as I once thought. I think I have watched one two many you-tube clips 8) . But in saying that I have started to do in depth research of historical places in my local area so maybe once am use to this unreal machine I will start to find my first per decimal coins and gold rings etc

I have also learnt that I need a pin-pointer to make my job easier, going to purchase one over the weekend. I have a great little digging tool that makes cutting plug holes easy and looks like I was never there. A little advice wear gloves when using your hands to dig out dirt as my last hunt I sliced my finger open on a broken bottle top that was in the ground that will teach me to always bring gloves :8 .

Cheers,
happy hunting too all.

Hi SeanCTX3030, welcome to the forum. Hope your new hobby doesn't get you too obsessed in the yella stuff (or the Alum stuff).
I'm sure if you study as you say you're going to you'll do fine.
Cheers Jack

Hi Sean,

Those you tube clips have a way of dragging you in, I keep hearing a voice in my head saying ok so I'll just watch one more before hitting the hay ;)

That great little digging tool sounds interesting, any chance of posting a image?

Welcome Sean, you are correct in saying that detecting isn't as easy as it seems. People love to show you their gold rings etc, but fail to show how many pull tabs and related junk it took to actually locate one.

As entertaining and informative as the you tube clips are, they are usually heavily edited, and don't show things in real time as a result. I find some of the more useful clips are the ones shown in real time, including all junk targets and good targets dug up within a session. It gives a more realistic appraisal of the detector in question - some people just find it a bit boring to watch though.

Sounds like you are getting a handle on the CTX, so best of luck. :)

Hi mark, this is my digging tool nothing special but it works well for me.

Thanks Chris.

Well on my first hunt I was so excited ((( with you tube clips stuck in my head )) thinking I would find the good stuff straight of the bat boy I was wrong. I quickly pulled myself up and took a step back and said, its not a race, be patient and good things come to those who wait and those who study there machine and there hunting spots.

Closing note.....Sean wants to be the yoda of the ctx 3030 at the moment am the grasshopper with a long way to go.

Cheers

Yep, theres nothing easy about prospecting. It's hard, tedious and confusing work at times indeed. But every youtube vid would be pretty boring if it showed all the unwanted hits of shotgun pellets and rust dots! If you can get the chance to team up with someone with a bit of know-how on using a detector, you will get to learn a lot more.

If you can't do that, find a metal detecting youtube vid that shows someone not just finding nuggets all the time, but when they are getting frustrated and annoyed with a day of no finds.

Good luck with your searches, I don't know enough to talk about detectors, but you will get a lot of help here m8 from others :)

I have not detected one bit of gold yet ( well I don't have a detector that will pick up gold anyway ) but I was having quite a fair bit of fun with my detector, digging relics up and learning the history of an area. It's amazing what you can find in some of the dumps or just a dropped item on the ground somewhere, I'm guessing you have already done this though

Hi Sean, welcome! I'm also new here and i also bought my x-terra 705 from miners den parramatta. Great service indeed.

I've only taken the detector out once and keen to get back out there.

Welcome Sean, dont think any punters will give you trouble in the park with that badboy 'digging tool' hanging off ya belt. Happy hunting

Hey jack,

Come on this little seed planting tool is not that bad lol.
It come from a flower and garden business.

I like your quote very true

For every minute you're angry you lose sixty seconds of happiness.

Hey showmethenugget,

Were have you been and what did you find. I brought the pin pointer today and went for a detect in the afternoon I have to say it makes the job so much easier and more fun in my opinion.
