Hey guys I'm new here, went up to Oberon this weekend had a really nice time went with the miss's i read that native dog creek has gems so went up there with two coffee cups and a small hand shovel, I'm not sure what i found but got a really nice clear red stone and a few clear yellowish stones was pretty exciting!
Later we went to black springs but couldn't find sapphire bend at all! looks like they have recently took all the trees down in that area so maybe any signage has gone?

Had a great time though! any ideas on where to start would be much appreciated!

Hi Andy, I am also a newbie, went to SB 2 weeks ago, drove straight past it the first time then went to the information centre at Oberon, they were really helpful, showed me a map and some great pictures from the late 80's  . They mentioned that about a third of the trees were due to be harvested, maybe someone on here can confirm.

Drive into Black Springs and turn left on to Abercrombie Rd, about a Km or two down the road turn left onto Riverview Rd, about 2 K's down Riverview there is a right hand bend on a rise, that's SB on the right hand side, it was signposted when I was there and plenty of diggings, don't know how I drove past the first time, must have been the excitement :8 Hope this helps and doesn't upset anyone.

wow thats fantastic!! i'll be going there sometime through the Christmas holidays on the way to bathurst, yeah it was a shame the trees had come down bet it was a beautiful place before!, did you manage to find anything?

Hi Andy, we managed to find a couple of small stones, nothing special but will definitely be going back again. Just saw your other post saying your from Shellharbour, small world. Should arrange a get together one day for a dig, i'm trying to get the misses to come for a dig at Grabben Gullen this weekend, just a day trip.

Welcome Avardy , there are heaps of spots all around the Oberon area worth trying for Gemstones. Ill write some up a bit later when I check my trusty old books for names of spots worth going to.
