Hi people, newbie here with a hankering to try my luck, fell in the welfare hole and need to dig my ways out, literally Lolz ? just cleaning house getting mobile, simplifying, thinking of using a detector and spending a few months scouring the Menindee to broken hill field. A bit of advice on equipment and budget shopping for a "I found the light' fossick would not be met unfriendly like.?

Hey mate, glad you're getting out of the welfare hole, but it's not likely to be by hobby prospecting.
It's largely a hobby for us PAers, where the motto is: "The best way to get a small fortune prospecting is to start with a large fortune".
It generally takes years of experience and learning, before even small returns are made.
I've been gold detecting for around 5 years as a hobby. I've found around $7k of nuggets, but have easily spent thrice that on detecting gear, research, travel and accommodation.
Gave many of the better looking nuggets to ladies/daughters as necklaces.
All the best mate.

Yup, not expecting a picnic, just a detector, pick, pan and backpack and hydration pack and park and fossicking permits,my mobile device and solar rechargables, total 65kg and field guide, surf a few reefs, the money saved paying rent and power etc will keep me in good supply, nothing to do but research and prospect, thank Spock for science, might even find a few meteorites and relics, beats sitting in the hole being inventory in a broken system :Y:
