Well three that is. The first in the first 5min big smile nealy did a jiggle dance, LOL. :D a 1951, 1952 penny s and a half penny 1948. All so a nice home made letter open (l think) made from a cartridge. A US uniform pin has a screw tighten part on the back. A small button. Nice time out.

Now RGMHot - you have a very cool piece there - known as trench art - the knife/letter opener looks to have been made by a digger in a war - they are collectable! Nice finds!
 
I belive it's an old married quarters patch from the 50's or so, need to look into it. I'll clean the cap end to see what type of round it was, it may give a closer date as too when it was made.

Best way for cleaning an old round?
 
Looks like a great day out, congrats on the pre-decs, and that knife definitely is a cool find. I just use brasso or whatever is on hand to clean rounds, usually just rub back the primer end to read the manufacturer/type of round/date. :)
 
Thanks goldpick, done that now and it looks like smi (or sml) 937. The other cartridge is a 44 mw va the letters are hard to read.
