Here was something i had from awhile ago and just found it sorting out my my lead finds. Reminds me of the sword in the stone. I'm just soaking it in the white vinegar to make it fall off and hope there might be some more inside. Looks like it could be pre 46 sixpence
Good morning fellow detectorists - thought I'd give you some Sunday reading from a Team Bogan Saturday night hunt - here are the finds...
Let's start off with a couple of spoons - a machine gunner who lost his head - 17 coins inc 1 x Florin - 2x Shillings - 3x six pence - 2x three pence - 2x half penny - 1 x Kangaroo Penny - some moderns - and the CTX got another gold ring!
9 carat
Coins
Gunner
Junk
We got lots of lead sinkers too - all in all a very successful night for Team Bogan - and lots of cleaning to do! . It was cold but worth the effort
Long time between drinks for the gold ring, but persistance has paid off in the end, well done guys. What's the hallmark on it?
Also looked to be a great night on the pre-decs, lots of silver which always great to see. Will be interesting to see how well they clean up, hopefully they are not too corroded.
You guys must also be getting a bit of a collection now of the lead figurines and assorted vintage toys.
It's a monogram and it looks to be quite old - and yes our luck continues with silvers ... Nearing 200 silver coins between us this year with no signs of the supply dwindling ... But I realise one day it will happen . I will say the more hours spent detecting the more your luck improves - and having detectors that are purpose built for the beach takes out the equipment element of detecting and then comes down to walking over it ... When I consider the number of kilometres we walk each week - I defy anyone who says detecting isn't exercise!
I managed to get the coin from the rock to find its only a %50 silver 1948. Came out with a nice lustre and will be nice ones i get the crud off
Here is the florin cleaned up gold pick
And the hallmark on the ring. Sorry about the bad photo but I have left my phone at the folks place so I could use the macro attachment. It says 9ct rodd
Here are a couple of silvers after electrolysis and bicarbonate...
And a three pence embedded in a rock
They are all pretty much toast so it's good to see they are all at 90% silver - which is like finding 2 50% silver content coins when they hit the ol scrap pile.
You do get a nice one every once and a while but most are very worn - lucky they aren't our main hunting target
I too had a look down the beach tonight, and as you mention, it didn't look very inviting. I ended up back in the parklands for a look around the place. Still, good to see you managed to find a couple of targets, the sixpence looks in good condition from being on the beach.
Another very quiet night on another very sanded in beach ... It was hard pressed to even find junk targets!
The junk...
And the treasure ...
A half penny that will remain a mystery and a three pence in nice shape... Slim pickins in other words... We need a storm to stir things up for sure! But I had fun - I got a new headlamp which has improved things...
Very bright and easy to see target with... We will see what Team Bogan comes up with tomorrow night as the kid is finally off work!
Morning folks - Team Bogan went out for a Saturday night hunt ... We changed locations and it paid off in spades ... Or should I say GOLD!
Here are the finds...
Let's start off with the silver coins - 2x Florins - 1 x six pence - plus a half penny, large penny, 2x brown buggers and a five cent piece... Also a large battleship to add to our collection of lead toys!
Then the targets we are looking for - Bogan and the CTX struck first with an antique black onyx gold ring - 9k...
Not five minutes later Paulmarr and the Sovereign GT struck gold too - a chunky 6.4 gram 9k monogram ring!
Another low tone and I think I may have yet another piece of gold...
A good clean up should reveal all... Funny but after we hit the rings the sinkers were right next door - 11 in all.
A corvette car as well - beautiful night and Bogan got his ring on camera so a video will follow... And Pete we left some targets for you!
Holy crap, saturday night must have been the night for rings, well done guys. Nice weight in those rings too, will be interested to see whether the other item is indeed gold. Love the ship.
Awsome finds! Congratulations, great work.
You obviously found a hot spot there, hope you did search it to death. And it will be your "bank" in the future, you will just pick up your "interests" there
I've got one of those baseball caps and they are handy Wolf but the torch I just bought is superior (and let's me wear a woollen beanie too - great for the folic challenged )
Here is my ring after a bit of spit and polish....
Thanks to all for your positive comments. Last night I had one of those light bulb moments with my detecting style. Bogan mentioned to me to slow down my swing significantly and not two minutes later I got the gold ring. And when digging it the signal disappeared - when I remembered my advice I gave to another member here about chasing the disappearing target and kept digging. Glad I did!
The basics of detecting ring true and in practice pays dividends. I am a firm believer in that you make your own luck and the more hours you are swinging the coil the luckier you become...
