So here it is

Any item to be auctioned, can only be done so if the full proceeds / sale price excluding postage goes to a pre auction nominated charity or a nominated fossicking prospecting organisation , eg. napha etc.
Proof of the donation to posted on the forum /or sale price to go directly to the charity or commitee .

All other items to be sold with the intent of keeping the proceeds to be sold the good old fashion way which has worked from day dot.

This will keep auctions fun , less frequent and draw more interest.

Hows that sound ? If it makes sense ;)

I know you had good intentions Aussiefarmer but unfortunately many of us are not in a position to donate descent items .

This why I like Auctions .

They bring out the true value of an item that people are willing to pay , no dragged out sales with many having to keep dropping the price like we see so often & no low offers .

If you don't like auctions just don't use them & let others who do like them have the freedom of choice . :)

I thought it was a good idea mate. Charity auctions would be the only auction I'd support on here.
Too many things can go pear shaped as we've already seen in the brief history on here. Not the least is the trying to undervalue items especially when the potential value isn't understood. Wrecked it for me. :N:
Goes on in the for sale section though also - some people probably just need to not comment on the asking price or send a PM to clarify their concern.
Want auctions - use a properly set up auction site & pay the commission for the privilege. Don't try to get a free ride from a site set to get nothing but more issues out of them. Just my opinion - not a shot at any one individual.

Just to get back this Auction subject ( sorry aussiefarmer for using your thread ) some don't want any auctions , there objections border on the straw-man argument ~ see here http://www.quickanddirtytips.com/education/grammar/what-is-a-straw-man-argument

One of the excuses to stop auctions was when two members colluded to shill bid a gold nugget up & up to try an get a sucker to bid higher , an
Illegal action classed as fraud !

That crap had nothing to do with the honest members here ! even on the For-sale section most don't send till they get the money .

And then we have the :-- :D

You only have to look at the overinflated property prices in Sydney to realise that auctions aren't always a good idea unless you're just trying to squeeze every last dollar out of each sale. Sometimes it backfires on the seller as well.

I think that picking a fair price that you want for an item and putting it in the for sale section is the best way to go about selling something here. If you want to auction everything then I think ebay is the go.

trust is the biggest issue. it may bring dubious people to the forum, and we dont want it getting big....drawing attention. I support it though, and the spin-off polls it creates.

At least it hasn't happened again since, lessons learned all round with that one I recon !
It's good when the Auctions are a bit of fun, and it's good when our sponsors want to support the forum with the odd Auction to bring a bit of attention to a new product or some such thing as well that they have on board that they want to bring to the fore.
Also good when someone wants to be able to pass on or share some surplus equipment that they don't mind if it goes cheap (cause they just want that extra bit of space at home to keep the partner happy lol)
I think auctions have a place on here in the future within specific parameters as long as we are all amenable to the rules and socially acceptable morals that go hand in hand with positive outcomes for all involved (even the casual observers) :Y:
just my thoughts on it all. :D

I will add my 2 cents worth.
I am actually a little peeved that mature people that cannot realize
that with our Hobby, There is an element of trust.
I am a people watcher out of habit and can generally pick some one who is
either fair dinkum or just a downright trouble maker.
Actually Human Nature makes me laugh at times.
Don't forget that we have a 10 post rule before you can participate
in any of the for sale section.
We generally weed out the non conforming before any crap happens.
I put the rule in that if things go pear shaped, The Auction is simply deleted
without any come back.
After the incident that we know off, A 3 day ban or at the very worst, a permanent one is issued.
We already run a tight ship in here with the way we moderate and I have noted that people
are aware of that on other forums.
I know that some times things go wrong and we all have to accept that.
I could go on and on about it but to me it is a small core of user's in here that always seemed to stir the pot
about the slightest thing out of line.
I have a heck of a lot of respect for any ones opinion but down right left hand comments just don't cut it
for me.
The whole concept has been shot to pieces and ruined for those who have actually used the Auctions for
what they are.
And finally, If those who set out to destroy some thing like this, I would love to see you focus your inner
strength and get out there and help us fight for a better way we can enjoy our scratching and sniffing.
You would not last 10 minutes in the firing line in a debate with a council or something with an attitude
and a display like what has just been exhibited.

I think you need a hug mate come on group hug
this next comment is to ALL the mods
this is causing way to much grief so why not just say NO I know you would have the support of at least 98% of the people on here
it is not worth the loss of a good forum because of it
if anyone wants to put something up for auction there is eBay, gumtree, Facebook the list goes on and on
My vote for what its worth is NO to the auction
JMO

The first auction was fun :Y: :Y: even before the item was listed :D the mojo died in the rules which is sad , if i was a mod i would now say any auction should have to pass the mod squad first and all other items to be sold normally :Y: .
I dont think it was my comments that have brought a mod to be very intoxicated ;) but if so ignore me everybody else does anyway  i think its a shame that adults got so picky about the if ,hows and whys , that auctions are now on the point of being canned , if you dont like em dont open them IMO.
The quickest root to failure is to ask the masses for an opinion , if you want to implement something get a clear set of boundries and say here it is... either use it or ignore it :)
All in all i go with the flow as do most of us :Y: cause we are Aussies :D

Well, Tath I can't offer you a beer    as you're too bloody far away.
Hope I didn't piss you off with my alternate poll, just wanted a clear concise result.
