the one I saw was a side mounted speaker, but the same idea.
Very nice unit you have there, the modded armrest makes life much easier. Mine is similar and far less tidy.
Try some of the padded tape around the handle as well. It makes a long day in the field less difficult.

I use a boosted speaker I bought from coiltek Maryborough. It plugs to the nenad adapter lead. I just tuck plug and cord inside the detector cover and it is no problems. It has heaps of volume. The unit is very light, small, clips onto your cover and I just adjust it so its nearly pointing up at me. Has a built in clip for the 9v battery it runs on. $89 Works great, and not attached to any cords anymore.

Recent gold from Maryborough area with this unit

Man that is small, very impressive that your detector could see it, let alone make a sound!

It sure does pick up anything there all day long, problem is in Vic I spend 95% of my detect time digging up the small type of shot pellet. Not many of the size 6 pellets left where I detect but heaps of those smaller shot pellets left I have found since using the 2300 . So good when I find a very rare area that has no shot pellets but the areas I detect don't seem to have any or very very small amount of gold. Cant wait to get back into W.A. this season, a lot of areas had no shotty pellets, most places if you get a hit more than a good chance its gold.

Bought a sdc about 2 weeks ago off gumtree. All was good until I turned it on this morning, extended the shaft and the sound failed in my headphones. I brought it to the detector shop in Ballarat and we tried three sets off headphones without success. They grabbed my details to send it off for repairs. Upon driving back to Melbourne I received a phone call from the detector shop informing me there is no visible sign of a serial number sticker on the sdc therefore Minelab can't help me. Surely Minelab have some sought of imprinted serial number on the machine. I am stuck now on what to do. Spoke with the guy I bought it from and he doesn't have original receipts and as he wasn't the original buyer of the machine. If worst comes to worst I'll have to rewire and solder the headphone jack myself.

Hey Chukyboy, call minelab service direct on 61-8-8238 0888 or email them on [[email protected]] and ask them if the SDC has an internal serial number that they can verify when opening up the unit. It is common to have internal identification on electronic devices. They may even embed the serial number in to the circuit board in a eeprom. Good luck, guess I will go and clean our spots out :(

Firstly Chucky it sounds like the same problem that I had and was an easy fix however I would like to know on what basis they are denying warranty liability . Are they suggesting the machine is a counterfeit ? If not then in my opinion they should be bound to repair as the machine comes with a 3 year warranty and the machine can not be over 3 years old as they have not been out for that long. Just because a sticker has been removed does not sound sufficient grounds to wash their hands of the problem even if you are the third owner as warranty is transferable. I am no expert in consumer law mate but I would be making my first call to Minelab customer relations and let them know that if no joy your next call would be to Dept of Business and Consumer Affairs.

Good luck and hope it works out

Cheers Bacchus I shall be calling them tomorrow. If they don't do anything about it I will difinantly be seeking some further legal advice. I even supplied them with a signed receipt and gave them the details from whom I bought the detector. But that doesn't seem to help them. Cheers for the support

That's pretty crook service even with a signed reciept. The serial number sticker is the worst idea they have ever had, I wonder how long they think a sticker will last??? It should be printed into the plastic.

I agree heatho, who ever designed this machine did not think about maintaining the serial id over a long time. Why would they use stickers on a piece of equipment that is built to be used in extreme condition outdoors and under water. I'm not happy $3000 for a machine that isn't working properly

Chuky boy, take it to a Minelab dealer and get it verified that it is a genuine machine.
A few simple tests will establish that.
Very hard to believe that the original paperwork, receipts, warranty transfer etc did not accompany the machine on its travels.
I hate to say this but buying something worth 3 gorillas without that paperwork is something that I would not do.
Hope it works out for you.

I hate to say it Chuky boy, but I'm just wondering if maybe you inadvertently bought a hot detector. It might explain why there's no serial number sticker. I know 1 was nicked from somebodies home earlier this year in Bendigo I think it was. Hopefully not, but ya never know with gumtree. :(

Hope it works out for you!
If the seller cannot provide the serial number or it is missing from the machine + no original invoice or receipt then the alarm bells should have been deafening! To be frank I can understand Minelabs stance & any machine purchased used with warranty remaining should have the warranty transferred to the new owners name - that is the buyers responsibility unfortunately not Minelab's!
For anyone looking to buy a newer Minelab machine like GPX4500/4800/5000 or SDC2300 or GPZ7000 etc. that would have warranty remaining the following thread would be a helpful read:
https://www.prospectingaustralia.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=5333
Although it focuses specially on the GPX5000 many of the checks & transfer process remain the same for any of the newer Minelab machines including those not gold specific.
The main points are:
Checklist for making a purchase (especially off eBay, Gumtree etc. or used):

Get the serial number

Get the place/date of purchase details - ask for an invoice

If possible check the security sticker hologram

Verifyallof the details with Minelab - don't just check the serial number as some fakes have a correct number on them. Get Minelab to cross reference it with the other details like place of purchase/date of purchase etc. They can & will supply this info.

If you have the hologram:

Go to the SMS function on your mobile phone

Enter the number: + 61 458 727 727 into the 'To' field

In the text field enter: Product Serial Number press SPACE then enter the hidden word or code from your security label

Press Send

Await response from Minelab

Once you pay (or even beforehand with the sellers ok) immediately contact Minelab to transfer any warranty that may be remaining on the machine into your name. Minelab warranty is transferrable & is quick/easy to do.
ALWAYS REGISTER OR TRANSFER THE WARRANTY IN YOUR NAME ASAP AFTER PURCHASING!!

ALARM BELLS:

Seller won't/can't supply serial number

Seller won't/can't supply purchase details/invoice

Seller does not offer inspection or pick up

1 or more checks can't be verified by Minelab

Font looks unusual/different

The price seems "to good to be true"

Spelling mistakes or incorrect sentences on labelling

Visithttp://www.minelab.com/aus/contact-us-3or [email protected] you have any concerns or questions.

Sorry if this seems like a "good in hindsight" post but if the above can stop situations like this then that is better than having someone read this & still not be sure how they can prevent similar occurring to them. Barring buying from an authorised dealer as Nightjar said the above process is the only way to go about buying a used machine in my opinion.

I hope it turns out legit & everything gets sorted but it doesn't sound good. If nothing else hopefully it will serve as a reminder to others & prevent similar situations.

yep sorry to say you should have had a original receipt with the on seller signing it over to you , with out any documents and serial number stickers I would have offered him $1000 . Isn't highensite great.
Hopefully we are all just over thinking it and its all good.
Does it have the minelab conterfit hologram sticker on it ?
