Is there any way to check the serial number with Minelab or something?

I fear it might be a Chinese knock-off product, especially since it looks so brand spanking new!

Email or phone Minelab with the serial number. http://www.minelab.com/consumer/contact-us
They may be able to tell you any service history on it also?
It would be very rare for an older series Minelab to be a fake although I would never discount it. The GPX counterfeit market is far more lucrative as people who are after the latest machine at a low price unfortunately can be readily conned. I've never seen or heard of a counterfeit prior to the GPX4500 but they really took off with the 5000.

Definitely check with minelab they will ask you to request the original purchasers name. Ive come accross a few fakes over the last month a 3500 a 4000 and a 4500

Maybe the person swung left handed so it would make sense to change the control box around??

I just had another look at the photos and I think I must have looked at it backwards - looks ok now ! :8
