A friend has decided he wants to give metal detecting ago ,he is on a limited budget so we are looking for a 3000 ,3500 , 4000 or older 4500 or any other PI detector thanks

There's an SD2100e just listed on eBay that might suit your mate's unknown budget. The seller says it needs a repair, but I'd imagine that would be do-able:

Battery is near new and was charged.
