Great to see you resolved that issue NavyBob.

All Minelab metal detectors allow you to adjust the settings to suit your hearing. In fact they HAVE to be adjusted to suit your individual hearing as everyone's hearing is different. There is a good video of this on YouTube somewhere where the inventor of the minelab detectors explains this. The threshold and tone controls are the one he talks about.

Garrett's videos also explain this.

i have a very simular problem NavyBob, my hearing is going. A souped up metal detector i had a few years ago and purchased of a deaf chap here in Tassie with boosters etc. screamed on a big chunk of metal and dropped me to my knees. Anyway, it makes listening in close hard now. My solution when the time comes is to use a vibrating gaming headset, so i can feel the target, plus tone, plus visual aids on the detector itself. A CTX 3030 sounds like it would fit the bill nicely :) Thanks very much for the tip.

have a fantastic day
Phillip

Hi Phillip and others,

Well I went through a large number of detectors of all brands and while yes all minelab detectors do make the adjustments I found for me the CTX3030 did it better, crisper and cleaner than the rest.

Yes I agree everyone's hearing is slightly different that is why I took technical information as to the scope of sound change of each of the detectors to an expert in hearing and in particular my hearing loss and matched the detector that I could best tune to my hearing.

True I had a very patient specialist but I now have a match but interestingly it makes it easy for me now to match most other detectors to close to my hearing losses. :)

Bob.

Hi all,

I've been watching this video

on creating User Modes using XChange 2.
This programme was for US coins. Has anyone created one for Aussie coins?

Cheers...........Doug

Doug, I use the ctx3030 a lot. Tell me mate what you wont to do with the machine and i will try my best to help anyway i can...roscoe

Yes, Doug that's a good setup they use. Allows those silvers to come in also. Glad you sorted it out..roscoe

Well from my use of the CTX GPS record hunt function, I would not put a lot of faith in it. The first hunt showed where I was etc, and thought what a great thing to see where I had walked - But the next time the trail showed I had detected across and back a main road that I did not cross at any stage, though I was within 10 or 20 meters of. Have not tryed programming in any coordinates, no requirement yet and after the above would be wary of the accuracy. Other than that, a great detector so far (5 months) but not sure it is better than my trusty Sov :) Cheers

Pink dildo?? (One of the items on the sheet) LOL - BTW, NZ 1 and 2 dollar coins are the same as Aussie ones, just opposite in size if you know what I mean....the numbers are the same (1 is 2 and 2 is 1) Cheers

Yes Ballsup - the things you now come across on a beach!

Does anyone have a list of target ID numbers for the CTX, or any suggestions where I can find one, I am about to buy the CTX & hate flying blind.

Been contemplating a 3030 for a while as an upgrade to the 705. Decided im gonna go for it but the challenge is to dig up enough coin with the 705 to pay for it. Im up to $1290 so already half way there. The 705 will be up for sale once i get my 3030.

I had started a similar list however this is much more in detail, I will look and compare my notes to your list as well. Thank you for the information this will be laminated and put with the kit.

Kudos to you :)

Hi Peoples, brought a CTX 3030 new form Coiltek they precharged batteries & gave me a 30-40 min demo on it. I then I took it out to a camp spot on goldfields near Marborough Victoria. Firstly I had a walk around where I about to set up camp digging about a dozen target all targets the CTX said were rubbish it was correct.
Testing was on mineralized ground & I had no falseing like the Xterra 70 or other vlf machines tried in past. Then for Gold test so got some samples out varying in size from .07 of a gram to 1.1 grams varying also in shape. The CTX was able to detect all. Even the .07 but it did had to be virtually touching the .07 bit.
Overall very impressed by initial test. :)

With the little experience I have had with mine it does struggle with the standard coil on small bits, forget about any depth. In saying that it does run pretty smooth in hot ground, but I don't know if it is getting a great deal of penetration either. Good luck with your new machine.

This list has been getting compiled since 2009 on another Australian detecting forum, as soon as I saw reference to the pink dildo I knew where it came from, whilst I am sure the members there wouldn't mind you sharing the hard work they have put into compiling it maybe you could at least acknowledge where you got it from.
I cant post the link due to less than 10 posts.

cheers
Darren

Best of luck Shane. I thought about getting a 3030 a while back but just couldn't pull the cash together 8.(. Let us know when you get it.
