Maths problem to solve while sitting around the campfire?

See if you can work this out given to me by a fifth grader please show working out

12 + -9 - -3 =

12 + (-9) - (-3) = 6?

Brackets first (-9) - (-3) = (-6)

12+ (-6) = 6

Long time since Ive done one of these.

I agree It appears to be a number pattern.
3x6, 4x8, 5x10, 6x12 , 7x14, 8x16, 9x18, 10x 20 which would equal 200
