Yeah, but in the end, who controls the on-off switch? They need about 30 different types of mines and a myriad of complex factories to re-generate. Me, I just...

Yes indeed. I share your concerns....however can it perform those maneuvers as I run bollock naked towards it, a la mel gibson in Braveheart, with an EMP generating selfie stick?

Asking for a friend? :argh:

The biggest problem with this sort of development of robotics and AI is that at some point when they can be made to do what humans do now the elite will realise that all the humans that are no longer contributing will be just feeding off the system, and they won't want to be supporting them for free because people without jobs, will have no money to survive and pay their way, so they are just going to be a burden to the system, it will surely get to a point where they will want the population will have to be culled, I have also seen the development of robots that can do most farm duties that people do now, I would be more concerned with the future in relation to this sort of change than climate change :argh:

I want to replace my eyes with robotic ones specifically designed to see gold in the ground :) then I'll sell all my gear except for the picks scoop and finds bag  Oh yeah now I can where what I want to and even go out in a hail storm  Seriously though I think it's pretty amazing to see these developments and we all know it will become more common as time passes.

Brace your self. The next weapon unleashed by humans will be clouds of insect sized lethal robots. Instead of a cloud of mustard gas it will be a cloud of these things, there Wil be nowhere to hide and they will be autonomous and self replicating. Make me feel better and tell me it won't happen :|

Greatest movie ever, Edward G Robinson and Harrison. Strawberry jam, elk on the mountain and mown grass. Take me to the biscuit room.
You dont think that happens today? Think again.

None of these things are obvious, and that is what makes the robotic future so uncertain. If half the population is not working, where do government get their taxes etc to support them and the infrastructure for everyone, I guess the answer is taxing the robots - not so silly, it would just mean a big shift in how much tax income comes from industry and how much from the population. Those proposing it argue that everyone is just paid a living wage from the excess productivity of robots over humans.

I think the effects of so much leisure and an unclear purpose in life for those not working might be the biggest threat.

Of course we still have a long way to go before we have truly intuitive robots. Some can learn by practice already, but how much practice do we give them (we give our kids at least 16 years)? I guess we could pass it along in a chip for the next robotic generation....

Oh for empathetic robots :inlove:
