Hi all I am trying to find a piece of stainless tube, not so hard i hear you all saying lol WELL the problem is the diameter as it has to be 46mil outside diameter and about 1mt long any ideas have contacted all the steel people in Bendigo one guy said ya no problem we can make it for you,He came back after 2 day with a quote of just under $300 after i got up off the floor i said no thanks so now i really dont know where to try any ideas .PP

Try your local car exhaust shop, if they do anything in 1.75 stainless they might have some offcuts.
BTW, I sent you a PM about your hardwood handles.

There is a stainless place in Blacktown , Sydney , they supply offcuts , if its in stock it would be about $35 and $15 postage , will look them up when I am in the office tomorrow arvo.

Tell me though , why does it need to be 46 mm OD ?

Had a similar problem a while back PP, had to find s/steel tube that was exactly 22mm OD which it turns out is 7/8".
Went everywhere chasing the stuff and finally found it at one of the boat builders in town, apparently its sometimes used as balustrading or narrow framework.
Not sure if theyd have 46mm but might be worth ringing some chandlers and boat builders over your way, even if they havnt got it they may know someone who does.

Well it has to be 46mil because I am trying to extend my drill press and wouldnt you know not a common size friggin germans lol not really bloody good drill lol.

Pirate , you might open up your options if you go with std steel etc rather than stainless steel, I assume you want to use it for the post so it doesn't really need to be stainless unless your looking for a certain finish.

Try the importer. Most offer a short and a long stand. SS is preferable, but 50mm solid bright bar can easily be lathed down. A simple coat of oil will stop it rusting. Even 50mm steam pipe can be lathed down. Bit lighter.

Thanks for the feed back ,not worried about what it is made from really, have got a couple of quotes to turn down solid both were about $260 mark ,contacted the makers and only have the same size post as we have so no joy there .Back to the drawing board lol .PP

Hey Pete I have here a piece of heavy walled steam pipe that would clean up to 48mm, it is pipe as opposed to tube so is not dimesionally accurate on the OD it measures between 48.15 and 48.5 around it. How much were you looking for? Maybe try someone who does steam work as you can get steam pipe in stainless as well. I think you want 38 mm or 1.5 inch heavy wall steam pipe.
