I usually browse Scammells auctions every week to have abit of a nose,

A 1923 half penny has come up today

You can live bid from the Scammells app, that's generally how I bid. Or if your from Adelaide you can go to the auction house in Norwood. Most items are from deceased estates, and are only advertised for 4 days before going under the hammer, could snag a bargain here and there

It's mainly all older stuff no modern junk

It got passed on today, I didn't get to see what the minimum accepted bid was as I'm at work. It may be re auction next Monday, or given back to the owner for private sale

I will have to pull out my old coin albums, they have been sitting in the cupboard for years now gathering dust. When I was younger I was right into collecting coins and go to the bank, shops etc and exchange silver coins for copper ones( half pennies & pennies ).I scored a 23 halfpenny back in the sixties from the local deli in change which made my day .
I hate to think what might happen to a lot of items you collect over the years which have significant value and when you finally pass on I am sure the kids won't realise their worth.

Cheers

Phil

Interesting the 2 bowls of assorted coppers

They would have surely taken out the better than scrap price ones

Eg : 1946 , 1925

Guess the buyer may use them for jewellery or the like

For $60 you would 300 or more coppers

Here are easily over a hundred uncirculated quality 1s and 2s in there which I'm going to pop on eBay for a buck each now as I've got no use for the doubles of dates etc

There was about 10 pre 1900 English pennies too, earliest being 1867.

There's a few old American quarters and dimes which have the potential to be silver, got to do some research when I get time, it was aloooot of coins to go through

There was a Moroccan coin dated 1371 in there and I nearly fell of my chair until I realized it's using the Arabic calendar not the Georgian calendar which makes it about 1951 :p

There's so many I haven't had chance to go through yet, didn't see any Aussie silvers on my first glimpse through which is a shame

They came in a tin of arnotts which had a beat before of march 31st 1988 :D its older than I am
