Had a go at making a bush button today.....epic fail! Lol.
Just couldn't get it hot enough to melt my fines with one burner. Thought I could get away with using the end cap off my fence as a crucible, 1. Butane blow torch surrounded by heat beads in the Webber.....nup.
Had just under 9 GMs of fines to melt. Will try again next week, should be over 10 GMs by then, and I'll get another burner!

can you use graphite and drill a hole in it?

have read somewhere you can make it out of clay but im not sure on that.

OK, I'll give the spud a go.
The borax you can get at bunnings in the box, is that stuff OK?
I have a spud,lol.

OK, had another go.
2 burners, hebel block kiln, no joy.
Had trouble keeping the burners going.
So close, but not hot enough, now have a semi nugget stuck in my cruciable.

Mapp gas mate I think burns hotter the yellow bottles.
air regulation I think you might have to play with practice.
sorry dave I'm no expert yet and hopefully in 2 weeks time I get enough crush/pan stuff to have a go but good on you and hope you get it right and show us the results :Y:

hi mate well done on the burn block that looks just like mine they could be twins ]:D ]:D ]:D
use the yellow mat gas (bunnings) gets a lot hotter and thats what you need dont worry the gold will not evaporate :8 :8 need a lot of heat for that
i use my electric on at with a temp of 1200 for an hour before anyone jumps on the soap box i asked the same question and that was what i was told to do by someone that does it for a living (assey office)
dont try and get it out of the crucible you will break it just reheat add a bit more borax and it will melt
unless you use a gas axe the blue bottles do not get hot enough (i found out that the same way you have) however they are ok to heat up the mold and keep it hot
with two yellow bottles going it will take you about 10 to 20 min to have it ready to pour
can't remember did i send you a mold as well if i did put it on top of the block while you are doing the melt so it gets hot as well
make sure that everything is ready for the pour as you only have a few seconds before it starts to cool down so it wont pour
does not matter how many times you do the melt some of mine i have done at least 6 times and have lost none trust me
how long did you have the gas running for
also have the bottles standing up as much as possable you will get a better gas flow
PS give me a ring if you want
