Im not sure of the real details , but a work mate told me this morning , that he had seen a bloke metal detecting on Stockton Beach, near the Signa. He was approached by a couple of blokes ( presumed to be National Parks & Wildlife officers/Rangers) and then packed up his stuff.
My guess would be you need a fossicking licence in this area....
Can anyone elaborate on this...

Hi Sandta, is that area a National Park area. If so that is why he was told to move on, no detecting in National Parks.

At least part of Stockton Beach is a National park. Fossicking wouldn't be permitted but I wonder if coin shooting is considered fossicking?

Hi Ramjet
I found this in the Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Fossicking is a term found in Cornwall, Australia and New Zealand referring to prospecting, especially in more recent times, when carried out as a recreational activity. This can be for gold, coins, precious stones, fossils, etc. by sifting through a prospective area. In Australian English and New Zealand English, the term has an extended use meaning to "rummage". The term has been argued to come from Cornish.

In Australia, "fossicking" is and was protected by a number of laws which vary from state to state. In some states such as Queensland, fossickers must obtain a licence but in others, (e.g., New South Wales) no licence is required.

Worimi Conservation Lands cover most of Stockton Bight.

The Worimi Conservation Lands are co-managed by the Aboriginal Traditional Owners, the Worimi people, and NPWS through a Board of Management established under the National Parks and Wildlife Act.

More and more restriction on activity in this area for Recreational vehicles and camping.
Only way around this is a CTX3030 or similar and stay in the water :)
