Hi all,

I'm an extreme newbie to all of this...Just wanted to check what the legality of prospecting in Queensland? I see I have to have a fossicking license... Is there anything else I should know? Just want to keep my nose clean :)

Thank you :)
Ben :)

Hi Benny, laws are a bit grey in areas but bssically it runs:
Any crown land thats not-
1. national park or state forest
2. Someones private property
3. Under a current mining lease
4. Designated water catchment
5. Native title land
6. Under a state pastural lease
is fine to fossick/proospect on. The exceptions being if you have express permission from a private land holder, mining lease owner or pastural lease holder to prospect on their land. Written permission is best.
In the case of private or pastural land you are still under the conditions set forth in the fossicking regulations and if on a mining claim you are subject to the conditions which that claim were issued.
Do a bit of research on here and on the wider net for the designated and open prospecting areas around tsville.
Good luck,
TGW
