Reading this thread makes me realise how lucky I am, considering I did both knees when I was mid 30s in M/cycle accident, no surgery just healing. I'm now 70, can still squat and bunny hop, as well as the lotus pos'n. (feet on top of each thigh).

All the best to those in need......

Will keep the prostrate thingy in mind, if n when....

ALL I CAN SAY IS ...............

Pain meds not agreeing with me at all.

P/Opp day 4 came home and not in a good place mentally and with the pain.

Now 7 days and 3 days of ups and downs at home.
Constipation is a big issue re drugs and last thing I need is an infection....

17th is off to the Drs for a review / follow up as to progress and range of movement....

I take my hat off to all who have been b4 be and those that follow. PS. Those that take on a DTKR are just mad.....

before you take the pain meds eat something , i usually have a slice of bread and that stops me throwing them up, as for the rear end grab some prunes they work great for flow.... all the best mate.

Hi folks, only just seen this thread...I had a Double replacement on the 28/02/2020 so about 3.5 months ago...My right knee is fantastic but my left knee is not so good.At my 6 week checkup I mentioned this to my Specialist and he informed me that he did my right knee and his apprentice did my left knee under his supervision.I was assured that they will both be the same after about 12 months. I went back to work after 3 months but am off again now as I have ruptured the hamstring behind my left knee due to trying to do too much too early. Once that heals I am hoping that my knee will improve as promised...I still do at least 1.5hrs of exercises a day including 20 kilometres a day on the exercise bike.Everyone tells me that it's still early stages and like some above I am expecting too much too early...I hope it all goes well for you...
Cheers...Sparra

Humpty...... pain meds was more of making me see shite and severe depression. At the corner now I think: as mood swings not so bad. But some times very dark very quickly.

Prunes and prune juice are good but no longer somthing I enjoy as much.

Sparra...... not yet 10 days Post Opp for me yet and exercises are all small at best. And for short periods. A few on the Australian Knee Replacement FB pages mention extensive exercises BUT many seem to take meds to cope with the outcomes.... not my cup of tea at the moment.

Another week and see the Dr..... and his physio ? I guess a checkup from him and then they will set out a pathway for me ?.....

Forced perminate retirement: so my desired outcome is to walk my daughter down the isle in 8 weeks. And then clean out / dump 30 years of collected crap from the shed.

Then start on all the fishing gear lol. Fly rods and gear / surf rods and 14 odd Alvey reels .

Then focus on 30 years of electronics shite and Coffee machine parts and detecting gear and parts.

Tvan to go as well...

Promised I would minimize the shite so that WE can do a few more things together. May mean more glamping or more expensive trips. But better to do it and enjoy the comforts while we both can.

I wish!!!!! 7 months on and 2.5 km/day, I think 20kms/day is "Tell him he's dreaming!!!!"

I had 2 replacements three years ago and the main observation is EVERYONE will have a different experience. My regret is not doing it sooner but I'm young (56) and surgeons were hesitant to operate so young.
Rehab is tough.
Physio therapists are #%*!< mean.

Knew the meds would do me over.

Constipation has led to a flare up of Diverticulitis. Thus a perforated sigmoid colon...

So now a week or so on multiple antibiotics at best. Then a bowel resection to be scheduled...

Just complicates the TKR recovery process.

Starting to loose the plot....

I've been having a nice big spoonful of virgin olive oil with a bit of Himalayan rock salt crushed into it.... supposed to be twice a day, if not then once a day (but I'm only havin it every now and then really). I keep it premixed in a jam jar n just stir it to mix the salt before I take my share..... certainly great n easy on the colon when it goes through, and the rock salt is full of the minerals the body needs to function properly. :Y:

Maybe only good if everything is intact n I'd ask a doc before having anything alternative like this. I'm havin it because It's supposed to help reduce that midriff fat that's hard to shake. :D

keep ya chin up and stay strong, all the best mate. :awful: :power:

Hey AM, when you were in hospital and knowing they were going to give you serious pain meds did no one suggest something like Benefibre in your diet to help with the constipation side affects? This is probably not much comfort now but if you haven't already tried it, give it a go, or high fibre foods (strangely my best treatment was unsalted cashews).

Wasn't Endone at all was it AM ?

Who knows.... it was involved but so was other stuff AND I had a spinal... So lots of bits would have been impacted.

I had high fiber a prunes from the first meal

But it is what it is .

Hate it with a passion as hard to predict and once identified as having an attack it is too late.

For those following this post, and for what it is worth re knee replacements. Particularly if you have an op' in the future. And I am not suggesting anyone do what I did.

2 years before I had my knees done, I had a Lower End Resection of the rectum for bowel cancer and a J Pouch fitted (which is a storage structure to compensate for a shorter colon). A J Pouch can come with a lots of problems. but, thankfully mine has been really free of problems except monstrous flatulence. This is why I approached the knee op'with some trepidation as to my bowel. So night before the knee op' I took a course of Picoprep which cleaned the colon out completely and meant I didn't have to "pass anything" for 3 - 4 days. Whilst this caused some consternation for the nursing staff it was great not have to either use a bedpan or struggle with 2 new knees to the bathroom. After 3 days I was up and moving well enough anyway. Then I monitored my bowel movements for any sign of constipation, which did not occur. My previous reference to finding cashews useful is just for my ongoing bowel management regime.

All the best A M hope you find what works for you.

not dreaming...4 x 15 minute 5k sessions...The exercise bike has no resistance as per instruction from my Physio so very easy on the knees...as they say "Motion is Lotion" but believe what you want...

Still on IV antibiotics and off tomorrow if all goes well.

That will mean 2 weeks of big horse tablets.

Now I have to work on DRY farts ( loud and proud) and to pass some formed #2s.

Then I should get released to then re focus on working and exercising the knee..

PS. Need a nifty pic re size app that works at time of up load. Trying to make copies and resizing to post on the fourm is a pita.

Easy if your using a phone for your photo uploads..... just zoom your photo in a bit to what you want to show and take a screen shot of it..... just upload the screen shot as it ends up being a lower resolution photo that works on the forum.

If I'm using photos of my own like in the Veggie Patch thread, I just take a bigger photo than what I need so as to leave me room to zoom in for the needed detail.
:perfect:

So home for a tad over a week and 3 days off the antibiotics AND I could feel the start of another infection. Late Friday arvo I got to my local GP and another course of big hose tables....

Contact the gut / bowel specialist on Monday... I hope not but he did say a resection and a bag may be my next option...

NOT a happy chappy. Knee is progressing but months be for it is OK. A good nights sleep is a dream let alone a good feed and a good crap...

Bloody mob of black dogs out there .... just know it. Can feel it in my water....
