Hi guys, new to the game but having a ball learning.
Bought my self a two tier sluice running with a 3000gph bilge pump and doing the hard yards on the stuart town common.
Keen to hook up with anyone else that frequents the area to learn/share the wins. I'm from the penrith area.
Cheers

Welcome. Any luck so far? Ive looked at Stuart Town, got the map etc, its just a bit further than I normally go if only for a couple of days prospecting. However keen to at some time! Good luck out there

Hey twapster.. Yeah mate.. Got a few specks and some little pickers from just a couple of buckets last week... Had an old timer show me around and got a few spots to suss out. Going up there over night this Thursday (($25 for a room at the stuart town pub!) if ur keen, would love to have a dig with you... Just let me know when you would like to go up and we can make a weekend of it. Will let you know how I go on Saturday after my clean up. Pics will be included. Offer our there for anyone else that wants to catch up..

Sounds good, will be Gem hunting this weekend but certainly a future prospect. Hope you find loads. Those Pub prices certainly wont strain the wallet too much!

Hey Retrojez.
Im in a similar boat to you. I'm from Penrith and love looking for gold or gems but finding someone that actually wants to go out hunting for them with me is hard. Ive been to Sofala and Oberon once. Would be keen to go with someone thats actually interested in the same stuff. Ive got a mini plastic sluice box and a new metal detector.
As soon as spring comes around will be doing weekend trips instead of day trips.
Let me know if your keen.

Welcome Knightbiker, i think a majority of us are waiting for the weather to warm up before we get into it again.
Hope you have fun and find some gold.

Hey knight biker

Definitely keen to catch up for a dig! I have sent you a message with my details. I have a small highbanker and just bought an ace 250. Happy to do a day trip any Sunday. Only 2 more weeks of soccer left so happy to look at a 1 or 2 night camp and have a serious crack next month!

Cheers

Hi mate,
There is plenty of fine stuff everywhere... Pretty much every pan has gold but it's mainly fly poo sized. There are 2 good dams there on the common where I run plenty of buckets through the highbanker... Bl@@dy lot of buckets needed to get a gram of the good stuff though! Lol I do get the occasional nice picker at the top of my box though which keeps me coming back time and again.

Hey Retrojez and welcome :) stuart town is one of the places im keen to get out to heard some good stuff from there and research says it was pretty rich in gold. good luck maybe something can be organised some time :) thats if your still around of course lol i know its an old topic.

hey mate. this post was 2 years ago. I was just seeing if he had been to stuart town recently. im heading there on tuesday for a swing. just trying to get some tips.

we are driving out Thursday to stay for the weekend down near the Park.
The best place to use the MD is out on the common.
Its about 0.5k out of town on the Mookerawa road you will see a sign on the right saying Common.
You could also try the other side of the Mokkerwara road almost opposit the Common sign/road is a road and sign for the Tip
If you drive in there off to the right side of the tip is the start of a gully that runs beside the old Mookerawa road its disused now but it also has potential as it runs paralel to the creek.

Hi Ben, I was out there on Saturday and plan on heading out for another swing on Sunday. I'm still pretty new to detecting so don't have many tips for you, but like most places the main area of the common as you drive in around the creek seems to be pretty well flogged. But if you head up the back past the house there are some old diggings which seem more promising, dug a fair bit of lead out of there on Saturday which leads me to believe it's less flogged and possibly has more potential. Still haven't found gold there but plenty have :)

My wife & I are arrived ar ST this afternoon & will be detecting and panning the common. From discussions with a couple of locals, they are keen to have well behaved fossickers, who can put some money into the town. There is certainly some history in this area and from what I am advised there are high levels of trash (from the area be previously as a tip) & high levels of mineralisation. As a relatively new be with the GPX4500, I am wondering what settings, would be best with a 12inch Evo coil. I was planning to start with the standard set up in enhance mode & see what happens.
May catchup with some of you guys over the next 3 or 4 days.
