Hi people.

New member here , working in mines in the Pilbarra and looking for detecting spots to go to while off work.

I have just an SDC2300 at the moment.

Can anyone point me at spots around Karratha for detecting? I don't have paperwork lodged for a 40E yet so i have to watch where i go.

cheers,
Shaun

Some good gold coming out of the ground up your way.

yeah just a matter of putting in the hours and it will come.

My third day of walking with the SDC and nothing but junk so far so i am looking forward to breaking the cherry.

I worked in small gold mines in Papua New Guinea for years so i have handled plenty of the stuff , our best day there was bang on 10 kg. :pickshovel:

You could retire on 10 kg. !!!

not really , the Excavator , dump truck, trommel and diesel tanks dont come free.

transport into the highlands is not cheap.

5 security staff with their bang sticks.

then there is the local chief and local govmint officials and a bit shared with the local land owners.

i think it took 3 - 4 months to break even

But it beats scraping the bottom of the barrel in the goldfields at home.

where do you even get diesel in the PNG highlands ?

my mind boggles at how much it must cost just for one tanker and the security to get it there ?

I reckon we have a pretty easy life here

ps , for anyone tempted its not an easy task , i know an aussie that set up a lease there and it took him 6 years of negotiations before he could even take plant equipment in there.

I did read about Placer Mining when they set up a dredge in the Highlands , in the 1930's . It was flown in , no part had to be over 2 ton.

The locals are likely to oppose foreign entrants lately and why wouldnt they , foreign miners have pillaged the country pretty hard , the locals deserve some in their pockets.

There is still mountains of the stuff left though. no wonder Indonesia wants to own it.

Hi Shaun,
Give us more details where you are based in the Pilbarra and the distance that you can travel that way I may be able to suggest a few spot that are around that area. I worked in the area for 5 years and did a fair bit of prospecting.
cheers db
