Thanks all.

To answer some of your questions, I have purchased a Garrett ATgold with a pin pointer to assist me.

I took the beast out last weekend to see how it worked and located an old nut and half a battery. The AT worked well gave me the exact depth and the pin pointer directed me straight to the items. I was only out for 15 minutes then. Intend to take a bit ofa wander over the Christmas break if I can find a decent location. Will try to locate anything as long as its something.
