So my crappy Motorola which I've been really disappointed with is due to be replaced. I do the telstra 2 year plan thing and upgrade evety couple of years when the end of the contract comes up....why wouldn't ya.? My question is what's my next phone? I liked the previous motos I had but this 1 was craptactular. I can get a Samsung galaxy 6 on a 80 or 90 buck plan, but I reckon thats getting a bit pricey per month, theyre still flogging off the galaxy s5 which is more realistic at 67 bucks a month I think it was, but is it worth getting something like that, when the s7 is apparently coming out around xmas. Not that I'll be able to afford that, but tech is rolling on and telstra are still flogging stuff thats been out for2 or 3 years. Where i live it's pointless going with another carrier, i may as well have a carrier pigeon. What are some good phones, I dont wanna go down the apple path. What's everbody using? Cheers Andy.

My eyes are bad, so the Samsung Note IV with the big screen is good for old men like me!

Must have Telstra as a service provider being out a lot in the goldfields where 3g reception is critical though.

Vodaphone or Optus just dont cut it.

;)

Mrs RJ has the note 4. No GPS I think. I'm switching to Telstra straight shortly. I can see Newcastle from work, about 3 Kays away as the crow flies, but barely get a signal with Virgin, which is the opt us network.

Yeah they say they have the same coverage as telstra but fail big time everywhere for coverage. I have to upgrade soon anyway cos this phone is slower than my 101 year old nan. Then sometimes it only works when it feels like it. Bludger phone. Lol

Yeh RJ, all the new smart phones have a GPS receiver.

101 years....thats bloody awesome Chewy, please give my best regards to your nan mate and i sincerely mean that.

She is a fighter for sure!

I really miss my nan, she left us in 2003 aged 94.

That's not bad a innings Meta hey, but it's a pity the memories that are untold that go with our loved ones. Mrs Chewys mamas (grandmother) is buried tomoz. She was a very nice lady, and while she had some health problems, it was pretty sudden and not really expected. Pa my nans hubby made it 94, they bred them to last that generation. :)

Stay away from HTC branded phones. Have had lots of bad luck over the past 2 years, 3 replacements because of over heating, screen flickering or no ringing.

Samsung are great Android phones!

I run the Samsung galaxy S5, has gps etc and with telstra get reception out in most of the scrub around here. And probably best in the mountains as well where optus gives up the ghost without a whimper. I had the bigger screened Samsung phone before this one but when it came to carrying it about it was a little too big. I like them as well because they have good hands free speaker reception which i often use when doing my artwork. And yes, i can actually do two things at once like paint or type and talk

I have bought Samsung Galaxy S5 for my wife's birthday, replacing Galaxy S2 . So far she is very happy with it. I'm still using Galaxy S2 and won't change it unless it stop working. I need phone with FM radio for coin shooting and gold detecting.
I have been advised by friend not to update OS to Lollipop. It is supposed to have numerous bugs and shortens batter life.

Likewise, I still have a Samsung galaxy S2, which I purchased outright when they came out.
It still make calls so no need to replace.
Had a $30 plane with Optus but because of MBN get it for $20 per month.
Thats 1.5 gb of data, 300 min and unlimited text.

Mrs Redfin has a Samsung galaxy S5 [work phone] with Telstra so we still have coverage in the bush.

I have an Iphone 6 that work kindly provides with unlimited data. It replaced my IPhone 5S that got wet at Mulgunnia Ck on the last Tuena meet up.

Apple devices are just fine, but I am not keen on having to use I-tunes to get stuff on or off the phone. If I had a choice, I'd be going Android for its slightly more open interface.

I like the slightly bigger screen on the 6, since like Metamorphic the eyes are not so good any more at seeing small writing.

My daughter has a Huawei which she reckons is much better than her previous Samsung, and is very good value. I reckon I'd be looking at one of those myself if I was in the market for an Android phone.

Buy a Samsung Galaxy..outright probably less than 100$..for cheaper mods which will probably every thing you need to do.Ive got a Boost... Plan... 40$ mth....Telstra coverage...unlimited calls..3 gig data..no contracts.."Boost"cheers

Could not agree any more with this.
I still run my Samsung Galaxy S2 4g on a prepaid.
sooo much cheaper. :D :D :D
The physical size of the phone is my big draw card.
Not to big, Not to small and it does what I want without a hitch.
Unless it gets run over.

I like my Galaxy s3, I don't do plans though, I only do $30 pre paid and have never run out of credit within the month. I always buy the phone outright.
