Polky I in no way shape or form want any sympathy from you!

But let's hope it never happens to you but if it does let's see how you feel

And mate trust is a big issue for me, I give it too easily and look where it's gotten me!

"Quote" people have said his dodgy I've never said it not do I listen to what everyone says about people's views on other people I make my own assesments

In this case you probably should have. Or at least stayed on the cautious side. I suppose you can learn from this, don't just give your expensive **** to people to hang on to. The whole idea is to minimize risk, especially with valuable items. It still Doesnt make it right assuming he has done the wrong thing. However you'd be easy picking for a scammer. I don't mean that as an insult, the best scammers are the ones who can gain trust easily and manipulate people.
The key point! Don't give your expensive **** to people!

Normally I pick a scammer straight away, but someone wouldn't wait 12 years to screw someone over.. We have always lent each other things and he's borrowed money before many times and never let me down..

I just hope he is ok because this isn't like him.. But who knows what's going on the police told me to contact his family and ask if they have seen him,

Yeah I hope he's ok. It's possible something might have happened to him and your 5k is just sitting at his place. Good idea to contact his family Next1m8.

The guy I'm trying to get it off keeps screwing me around hardcore, I gave my other detector the 5000 to my mate to look at and now his gone off the radar too, tried calling him, been too his house twice. No car no answer

I'm really starting to regret that decision

Edit spelling

Doesn't sound like a mate to me, seems like you may have been played, hook line & sinker.

Find him to get the detector back and even report issues to the police if that will solve the issue.

Rob.

I'm starting to wonder if we on the forum are being led up the garden path or being played with a bit, as no reasonable suggestions are being responded to as we would expect. Just wondering......

Rob.

Yeah im with you Rob , its easier to find gold then follow this story , it started of about a Minelab xt1700 and not a Single reply to anyone's info in regards to them .Now he is looking at buying something TOTALLY different to what he asked about ?
All just a bit to weird for me to follow sorry.

I wouldn't get screwed for 5k and then want to rush out and buy another detector just to ease my stress ?
Strange strange story this one

People are different in many ways. That's what makes it so interesting at times as we would be a boring lot if we were all the same.
We react in many different ways to a stress full situation.
.
This bloke who has done a runner sounds like he has used his mate as he knows how easy going Next1m8 is.
I am very easy going and at times annoyingly so but I consider myself a very good trust of judgement with people.
Body language is a very big give away for starters and I have learn t also over the last 12 months who I can trust.
There are a few people on here that when I finally found out their profession, confirmed my suspicions. Very highly trustworthy people.
Also have met some others who are just down outright decent people.
.
I bet old mate comes crawling back with a sob story. If some thing really bad had happened, The family would have said so when asked.
.
Cheers.

Fingers crossed that when you said to him "check this out for me" he's decided to take the missus and check it out in the bush for a week or so, he may come back and split the nugget finds 50/50 with you and say "yep, it's a good machine".
Fingers crossed for you.

To anyone who doubts this, simple stop clicking on the thread! I'd appreciate people keeping there doubts about it to a minimum don't you think it's driving me crazy enough.. I Don't really want to loose anyone as support on here as I appreciate everyone's help.. I've done all that I can about this for now.. And when the times comes regardless of the outcome I'll keep you all informed.

The reasons why I wanted a cheap detector is because there's an itch I can't scratch not having my detector is driving me mental, but having something "anything" will be better than nothing and at least with one extra it's not a bad thing is it?? Just means that when my son is old enough to learn the ropes I'll have a detector sitting aside i'd already be familiar with to teach him..

If people are genuinely supportive of the situation I appreciate it, too anyone who isn't please keep your remarks to yourself I've had enough negativity already, enough people call me an idiot for trusting my mate.. But his not just some joe bloke from up the corner.. Yeah he's an indervidual some critisise him! But I don't and I think he'll have a genuine reason for what's going on and until I find out what this is where this topic ends!

Contact minelab mate, they would have a record of your serial number through your request and their reply to you confirming it's genuine. Also there were a few photos taken of it in your wanted to buy post. There wouldn't just happen to be one with the serial number?
Jon

Unfortunately not mate, I have contacted minelab but without the exactl date they told me there could be multiple serial numbers for any number of machines sold around that time. I need to contact the original buyer to find out exact dates bought

I was talking about the sms they sent you, they would have a log of the serial number with your phone number. Give them your phone number and they should be able to determine the serial number they sent you in the sms.
