As if there aren't already enough problems with unprepared city types on outback roads, now Jeep are trying to encourage more of them:

Don't worry about spares, the car comes with free Roadside Assist. No need to tell the buyers their phones will usually stop working about 20km from the city and the next passing car might be two days or more away, while they wait in 40 degree heat with insufficient drinking water.

Maybe it should come with free funeral insurance too.

Jeep make some odd ad choices I've noticed. 1 of their recent ads made a big point of spare parts being easy to get.

To me that was saying my new jeep probably worth 50k plus is going to breakdown.

I have had 3 Landies , 2 short and one lwb . They are now too much out of date , well the older ones ... I was heading west with a fully loaded SWB series 2 or2a . Going along the free way, from Sydney , was fine , bowling along at a fair rate of knots . After you crossed the river there was a T- junction at that time . When I put my foot on the brake their was nothing ! Zilch ! There was no power assist or back up. The only back up was the hand brake which saved me . What some idiot had done was soft soldered the pipe on the back axle together ..... As soon as I put some strong pressure on it , it failed .

I have now got a MWB Landcruiser diesel 1989 I have had for more than 10 years . It is on historic plates .

Plenty of spare parts in the bush , not many for Jeeps ... Very few farmers have them .

A guy I know had a Landrover disco in Cairns Q'land had to wait a week for spare parts ....
