A scientific study of the Solar Systems heavy metals such as Gold and Platinum.

And NASA is looking at mining in space  it's starting to look like I need to read up on RJ's Rocket thread to get my head around the value of a space craft for when we have a Vic GT Meet up in space

So how are we going to pan for gold on the moon? No gravity...

We'll have few beers and chew the fat on that one while we catch meteorite rocks as they float on by :( :| as you can see I have no idea how any of it is going to pan out :/ I'm just as curious as you :Y:

Walk around and pick up the nuggets. Not many prospectors have been therr yet. Take a 7000 for the deep ones.

'tis a weighty question. One not to be made light of...

Panning should still work - though might need to develop some different panning techniques. The moon does have gravity it's just not as great as on earth - ie the 'weight' of gold will be different - though the mass will remain the same (as on earth). The elements (and minerals) will still have specific weights and will vary from each other in the same ratio to each other - and heavier minerals will settle to the bottom during the panning process.

You will all remember seeing man 'float' in space - but when they landed on the moon they actually walked - but even they needed to use a different technique to walk - due to the lower gravity.

Make sense?

True, it's all relative.

Bit it spoils a good question :)

Hmm.
Apparently water will not persist on the moon (vapourises etc).
Dry blower it will need to be - or maybe dry panning will be more effective with the reduced friction on the moon.

You might need to dig for water though or take your own. Maybe a dry blower would be better.

This subject might need its own thread :8 it might be sooner than we all think. It's obviously attracting interest in the capacity of research and dare I say it big money will be watching.

Hold the thread until the interested parties sign up to PA :Y:

good articles there 7.62
I still have about a decade to go before retirement, but Im becoming increasingly concerned about how much of my SuperA I will be allowed to access, & if it will become a fully gov regulated pension replacement, in that I will only ever get a set fortnightly/monthly payment.
