Interesting evening - got back from Sydney after a three hour drive, and had to go to the school farm with Jannine because there was a report of a cow in distress. J is the head science teacher and runs a 100 acre farm at one of the local high schools.

The Herefords and calves in the bottom paddock were fine, but we had to check on three Black Angus in the top paddock.

Since the farm is 100 acres, it took some time to find them and check that they were OK. Naturally, they were camped in the most distant location, and by that time it was getting very dark. Luckily I carry a powerful LED torch in the 4wd, so we saw their eyes first, and then the white faces of two of them.

They were cows being prepared for showing at the Goulburn show, so they were pretty friendly.

We reckon someone had walked past the Herefords and heard one bellowing, and thought it was caught in the fence or otherwise distressed.

Js Fitbit said it added 4,000 steps, so I suppose it was not entirely a waste of time. I also got a fairly decent allocation of brownie points, as J is not entirely happy about wandering about in paddocks in the dark.

There is an old ram in one paddock that J thought looked like the Goulburn panther in the torchlight.

Im now relaxing with Martini #3, and not looking forward to Canberra tomorrow and a very early start and long day in Sydney on Thursday.

Nothing worse than a few cows loose in the top paddock! :D :D :D
