Cheers mate, yep its a ripper spot this one and now well protected bu the farmer and shire haha.
I use a very light gun oil then wipe it off really well

And to think I was about to chuck it out! Turns out its a turn of the century siren whistle . I found it right by the train line so it must of been from a conductor or construction of the railway?
Made by Mossberg Wrench Co. in the USA in the late 1890's and was called The Develine patent pendin
