Hello Everyone, I'm new & Very Green to metal detectors. I bought a home a few yrs back with acres & it literally sits side by side to one of Australia's largest man Dug gold mine.. (bak in the day.. my nan would walk the creek and pick tiny nuggets out after the rain on the very same property) Could I get some much needed advice and help on what type of detector I might need as I'm only looking for what may have been left behind closer to the surface ATM.. and hopefully find coins and jewellery along the way.
Many Thanks in advance

Welcome welcome you will enjoy this place
With the detector it all depends on how many $$$$$$$$ you want to spend

Welcome Karryn, If you are interested I'll bring my detectors down to your place so you can practice and decide whether you want to purchase a unit, I have an sdc2300 and a GPX5000 . The sdc is really good at picking up the really small nuggets near the surface and the larger nuggets to about 9 inches. The GPX will go deeper but will miss the small nuggets the sdc can find. I just bought the sdc for $3500 recently. I got tired at seeing my mate pulling nuggets from the soil that my other unit could not even detect.

Welcome to the addiction Karryn :)
The forum is a great place to gain information and there are a lot of good people here always willing to help others.
Good thing is to get your post numbers up so you reach ten post , then you will gain access to the members area of the forum.

Karryn, you can hire out detectors from various shops. Not sure what state you are in but there should be one near to you unless you're really isolated. This will help you get a feel for detecting.
The type of ground your land is made up of will go a long way to determining the detector you'll use.
Your land sounds really promising and you wont be short of offers to assist you. Good luck with it.
Have you tried panning in the creek?

Thank you for your replies everyone. Hopefully this will reply to all.!
I am an extreme Novice! The hiring of a detector sounds good, although I may be back on here often asking for help haha.
Once I get the hang of this I'll probably be absolutely hooked :) and then I'll look at buying from you guys.
Thanks again and hopefully I'll be back to let you all know how I go?!

Karryn
