Hi all...like everyone here have succumbed to the gold bug....also bit the bullet and shelled out for a GB2...have heard mixed reviews.Yet to get out and give it a whirl....looking forward to having fun searching for flakes or anything bigger :)

Welcome m8. The gold bug 2 is a good unit.
It runs a very high frequency. This is a plus and it with that, it has a down fall in high mineralized areas.
Cheaper lower frequency units dont have this issue, as they cant even pick the mineral content in the ground.
Like any detector, run it at 100% sensitivity at first, then bring it down a level it begins to behave better.
The two silver switches , audio boost etc.... leave them at the middle position. Yet to see any advantage using them.
The 6 1/2" coil is the go. Get a skid plate for it.
Hip mounting it on a good thick belt is great, makes it super light and protected when putting down to dig a target up.
Use a small zip tie on the cable to the belt, making a small loop.
This will stop and strain to the connector terminal if stretched.
PM me if you need any tips running the girl.
Hot rocks will generally give a double zip noise when waved over.
Gold and lead etc will give you a sharp crisp zip signal.
This can be fainter on smaller/ deeper targets.
But still a crisp faint zip noise.
They where called a bug for a good reason!
They sound like one.
Always have just faint hum In the back ground.
Rear dial controls this.
Adust the sensitivity or ground balance...... you will simply need to turn the rear dial again untill it has that faint hum noise again.
