Hi,
These are great machines. People change coils play with settings and say their detectors are noisy - i thought the same until i read the first page in the 4500 manual, Titled "Congratulation" and
page 4 "Introducing" paragraph 2 and 3, this tells me that this machine can be set for all these conditions.
Please don't take this as if i think your an amateur, this is the only way i can explain the following settings on this machine as i had all the same problems.
steps i took to fix this
reboot your detector back to factory settings - hold the power switch until reset menu pops up - select "all settings" this will reset the machine to factory presets like the
gp 3000 and 3500. This will clear all of your previous settings you saved.
Once reset, Try these settings:
Front Panel:
Search mode - select custom ---- this is so you can save your settings for specific ground and coil, in the menu select something say Test A or B then once set you can name it!
Threshold - 2 o'clock ---- this is a start, adjust later to suit
Soil/Timings - Enhance ---- will talk more when we ground balance
Ground Balance - Fixed
Rx/Gain - DD --- will talk more when we ground balance
Back Panel:
Backlight - Off ---- leave this to you, i have it off
Volume Limit - 12 --- increase later, i have it at 14-15 for headphones or 10-11 with external speaker
GB Type - General
Special - sensitive extra --- for now as a factory preset
Main Tune - 124 --- this has become sort of controversial, will talk later
Motion - Very Slow
Rx Gain - 8 --- talk about this later
Audio - Normal
Audio Tone - 50 --- this is factory preset, i have it around 60-63, that suits me
Stabilizer - 10
Signal - 19 --- i like this set like my GP 3000
Target Volume - 10
Response - Normal
Tracking - Medium --- talk about this later
Iron reject - OFF - don't work with mono coils
Custom Name - leave for now
Note don't save settings yet!!!!
pick a nice quiet area, hold your coil at 90 degrees in front of you, do a full circle and take note of any variation in noise, go back to the noisiest and stop then press the tune button, keep still
Ground Balancing - do this one time only in this sequence. NOTE: Do not press button on handle while pumping coil - this will muck you up with the following
Flick "Soil Timing" switch to "N", Ground Balance to "Tracking", leave coil/rx in DD. Pump coil 100mm off the ground until threshold is stable
Flick Soil Timing" switch to "Enhance", Ground Balance to "Tracking", Coil/RX to "Mono". Pump coil 100mm off the ground until threshold is stable
Flick Ground Balance to "Fixed" raise and lower coil to see if ground balanced
I've used these settings in the noisiest of ground with my 18" mono and she is quiet, and my threshold hum is perfect
from here you can increase the RX Gain, increase by 1 at a time then while in "Fixed" press button on handle and ground balance, each change you make ground balance your new settings
I have Gain at 11-12 range depending on area, also change Tracking in the menu to Slow, do one change at a time and then ground balance.
once your happy with your settings and threshold is stable, name your settings then switch off detector to save them
Hope this help you
