Shovelling from my 20 litre bucket into the mat and watching the water do it's work, it's easy to imagine gold getting washed out, so I pull up the mat and rinse out the concentrates after every bucket.

Is this too often?

How many 20 litre buckets would you guys put through the dream mat before cleaning it out?

I have the 8 Inch river sluice.

Depends on how much black sands and heavies in the area. Once the little traps 'under the umbrellas' are full of dark material I usually pull mine out. While there's still light material in there I figure that the gold and heavies will displace it and get caught.

I use the 6 river sluice, because of the size of gold in the creek here. (Flour gold) about 20 pans after classifying down to size 4 , in the 6 high banker at home. From tailings 1 x 30l bucket after classifying down to size 4,

The most important thing is test pan the area your digging to see if theres gold , no point running a sluice if no gold, and if your doubting yourself, take a sample of the tailings and repan it. To see if your lost anything , Its all about the speed of water, the level of angle the sluice is on, Hope this helps

Thanks mate. Yep, the pan is my most valuable tool when it comes to locating deposits or pay streaks. Funny though, I seem to find gold in the strangest places.
