If you're in it to get whatever you can out of it I reckon you're in it for the wrong reasons.

This about sums it all up in one sentence and would make a great motto for PA.

I agree, but I am sure that there are many on this forum that will disagree, and I guess that I can understand that if it is their sole means of income, or the like. Me I am in it as a hobby with gold found being a bonus.

Thanks Rob and they are wise words mate.....each of us is in the game for our own reasons.

Now I will never doubt the wisdom of GT, a smart bloke and a well respected prospector by myself and all.....we talk a lot with each other!

But i have to question his comment on this.

I dont want to mislead anyone here, Im in it for the gold....in a good sense however you may perceive it!

Its a second income for me, and I get damn sick of eating baked beans on toast.

Let me make this clear, I would NEVER stab a mate, a fellow prospector or even a complete stranger in the back for the sake of any amount of gold, but I do this to find the color...number 1.

If you need help in the field in any manner, shape or form, Im the first there for you, but I dont sacrifice my time in the armchair at home sitting next to my lovely lady, spend countless hours in front of a computer screen researching, or fork out the expense, effort and planning to head out on a weekly/fortnightly basis.....just to smell the roses.

Im in it for what i can get, or I might as well hang up the gear and watch the footy!

Its just my way of approach.

Not all will agree but I know you all understand ;)

Yep agree and understand Meta, the difference is you give time and info to help others which is different to just take take take.
I think what GT was referring to is people who won't give anything to help others but just take everything they can, info, locations as well as gold.
That's how I read it and that's why I liked it so much, we only get what we give and I think a clear majority of members give in one way or another, I may be off the mark though?

Greed, hate and envy put those things above those around you and it will show.
If a prospector is a decent bloke he will show it, and it's not always in gold.
I feel we've drifted off topic, but yes sharing comes in many forms.
You blokes are alright you know and I would spend time with any one that was anyway half way decent.
I think many valid points in this thread have been made from varying viewpoints.
Here's to gold in all your pockets!

Im often misunderstood Pete, but i can cop that!

Successful people are always looking for opportunities to help others.

Unsuccessful people are always asking, 'What's in it for me?'

This is true but only in the circumstance.

My motto has always been....go hard, or go home!

But NEVER at the expense of others. ;)

A leader's job is not to do the work for others, it's to help others figure out how to do it themselves.

Cheers lads

I do a bit with a mate - But chasing spendables...

We both have to drive a bit to catch up... So we tend to cover off on fuel costs etc. and then split every thing 50/50.

Any special finds are celebrated and shared, as he has some kids.... I like to leave all the dirty silvers with him as a bonus for the kids...

Do we get rich = NOPE But we get some great times to share AND often share that EUREKA moment.. Nothing funnier that dropping every thing and running across rough ground and then watch; as that special signal and glint ends up being a bit of junk..... Sharing those moment and being able to laugh with each other is the real gold...

GOLD - Where and how do you find that :) Tried some 30 years ago and would love to tag along some time to just get out and be involved...

Spot on AM.

Some say there is no need for rules among mates, this is true only to a certain extent.

Its got to be 50/50 or no go........rules established early, will ensure that you always remain mates!

You will get gold mate, just go harder and smarter!

Know what i mean?

;)

My significant others subscribes to the same theory...50% of mine is hers and 50% of the time she makes decisions for "us"

Successfully shared a bug with me and so the last 4 days housebound. Gotta love sharing!
I wish mrs dwt would share some of her friends, I'd be in for a 50/50 split! ;)

hang on,... I don't think she has that many mates.

When it comes to gold we generally are loners. We research alone, travel alone, and camp well away from others generally in very isolated locations. We occasionally "Plan" to meet up with others, who are generally out there for the specific purpose of chasing gold, and rarely for a casual get together,.... never as a partnership....I've learnt a long time ago partnerships don't work well and been stung several times. What we find, we keep...what they find they keep. If they find a hundred ounce nugget what I share with them is their joy.

What we do share is a yarn, advice, and a beer around the evening campfire, and have been known on many occasions to "Give away" nuggets to mates who have been low on luck. I do share 50 /50 with Liz ;) ....but the reality of it is she takes 100% .

personally i've found 50/50 is the only way to go if its a day out with a mate, if its a day out both using own equipment and ive done the research i dont expect any share while detecting. however if a mate found a big patch off of my research and hard work i would appreciate an offering i doubt i would take it but the offereing goes along way in proving appreciation.

like has been said above partnerships are funny things, Ive lost a lot of mates over gold in the last two years over gold, you show a bloke/teach them and they come in a flog your spots hard at night..... these are the types of people who will never really learn to prospect their eyes are different they see the world owes them something.

I can count on one hand the people i would trust to take and share information with these days and all of them ive met on this forum :)
