Awesome mate, congratulations, bet you were chomping at the bit while you were waiting for batteries to charge

Thanks, lol, I was actually pretty controlled to be honest and made sure I slowed down and kept my head in it and didn't get too excited otherwise I may have missed something. Enjoyed every little bit of it though. On the Clermont trip I found gold every day (in a dozen different spots overall) so that helped keep the pressure off.

Well done mate and that's a beauty nugget. :)

Will you show us the nugget after you clean it up?

Will do mate, have only cleaned with a toothbrush so far, was going to hold off on putting it in acid for a little while.

Wow! Sirdigsalot..
Welcome to the ounce club..
" Oh what a feeling! An ouncer! :D "
Great isn't it..
I can see you playing with that nugget for some time yet. ;)

I too would love to see it after it's bath, I think it will come up a treat..

Nice gold, just proves that gold can be found in places well done over.

I think that is where Jonathan Porter lives and to think such a good operator missed those, well done on the find mate. :)

I miss heaps of gold, in fact the older I get the more I realize how little I know and how much I've missed. :). Nice gold OP, good to see there are still some lumps to be had around the place.

Well done we were at Western Creek June this year, I fellow there pulled a 6ozer out at the end of the day, a few young fellas went back in the night full moon and cleaned his hole out over 12oz came out of the patch.

Western Creek is well known for its leaf gold, I ended up with a dozen and 5 smallish nuggets.

Some fellas we met there were only chasing leaf gold, the day they left they showed us 3oz in just leaf amazing.

Our winter trip 1st June next year is straight back up, its great spot with Shirley letting people camp where ever they want on the property.

So happy to see you got some bigger stuff, you would have seen its been hit hard in the past.

Well done

Margaret :)

Thanks, and yes it's seen a lot of attention already and gold does funny things to people, there was some good finds when we were there as well but was thinning out at the end. Still good gold to be found up there but you'll need to work for it like anywhere else really. I really enjoy prospecting in that particular type of country so I was happy either way, my previous trip to Dells Hole I only got 3 for a week but learnt a lot in the process.

Well done SirDigsALot, funny how some just seem to be able to walk over it! Must think differently or something, I don't know.
I was out at Western Creek to wards the end of October for a week. I met a very experienced gent who taught me a lot, we went for five days and nothing, on my last day we got a bit over a 1oz specimen as a joint effort so pretty happy with that.

Have just had my detector modded and tuned up a bit, next time out will have a lot more confidence in my machine and myself I think.
Can't wait to hot now though.

Thanks Prooz, I walked over plenty of ground without finding anything as well so it's just a case of patience, persistence and being able to learn a little bit more each time you go out.

Congrats on the 1oz specimen, a great way to finish off a trip, would be great to see a picture :)

I'm very proud of being there when you found your nugget at Nundle, that smile on your dial at the time and now seeing this amazing story. Well done mate you are now in the Pro Detecting Club, ill get there one day and your story has inspired me and i'm sure others to get out there and give it a harder crack, persistence does pay off!

Thanks Mate, it was great sharing that first find with you and its a pretty great feeling when you pull out a big one so well worth the persistence, if you learn one small thing on each trip it all starts to click down the track.

I'm really happy to be giving back some inspiration where I can so thanks for that :D

awesome effrot and results mate good stuff, makes me feel a whole lot better about moving up to the sunny coast next year. That ground looks like it could benefit forma drywasher :) thanks for sharing mate

Margaret, a few weeks back I'd tossed up whether to go west of Warwick or north to Clermont. Left it a bit late and the weather got v hot so ended up going west - had mid to high 30s for almost a week!

But it was the distance north to Clermont that threw me especially allowing for a 1 to 2 week trip and, with no local contacts, having to camp in an 'established' camping ground . This meant adding 30 klms traveling every day before getting the detector fired up when camping at say Clermont and then driving out to McMaster GPA.

Is 'Shirley' contactable - does she allow public access? Does she run a cattle station or likes?

Would be great for planning trips away if there was some list or likes of properties that allow detecting/camping in Qld, considering the impracticalities when compared to WA, Vic or NSW.

SirDigsALot, you have me green at the gills. Congratulations on your work & its rewards.

Hi SirDigsALot,

I hope to join the desirable club! Down the Gold Coast here, do you go looking locally?

Anyway, nice to see you are making great finds, good to see.

Cheers

Thanks, and yes I go locally, my starting point detecting was with Bruce, it can be hard to find gold in that area so the time with Bruce will save you many gold less trips trying to learn yourself and pay for itself in fuel saved.
