If you stick around Tambaroora & don't go in any fenced off or signposted areas you should be right. Plenty of ground there - more than you'll cover in a weekend or three :D
Just be mindful of the Village boundary being National Park & the historic sites like Golden Gully, Valentines, Cornish Roasting Pits etc. that are also under NPWS. All are well signposted.
The small mining lease (Gold Mountain) towards the southern end of Tambaroora appears to have cranked up again. I'd never seen anyone there before but there was a fair bit of noise/activity last time I was out there. You can't really stumble onto the lease by accident. It is fenced off & well signposted to keep out. Not sure about others around there but they should be fenced etc. also.
Good luck. I'm heading out tomorrow to give it a go myself. ;)

Thinking of taking the family to hill end , probably Boxing Day , anyone been there at this time ? , would camping area be full ? As you cannot book , first in best dressed.
Cheers

Hi webstertwin, there are 2 camping areas at Hill End run by NPWS. one camp area in town is often pretty crowded during Xmas period, the other camping area is 500 metres out of town and is very large and there is always plenty of room. The hot water at both grounds is by gas at $1 per 3 minutes so the showers are always hot. If you want a powered site you could have a problem because they are limited.

Its probably not the way to go for you but others simply camp in the crown land area at Tambaroora (no facilities at all).

The pub serves good meals and kids meals in a courtyard or dining room and is worth going to one night. (get in and order early during the boxing day period).

Plenty of places to detect or pan or sluice. Just talk to some of the people you will see in the creeks and detecting on the crown land when you are there.

Note: the "Bridle Track" road is closed between Bathurst and Hill End, you need to go by the quicker now sealed road from Bathurst-Turondale -HillEnd if you happen to be travelling from that direction.

cheers RDD

Cheers RDD , I thought I read somewhere on the forum that the crown land was under exploritory licence and only one area for detecting was out a ways from town , but thanks for the info .

Hi All,

I am going to Hill End goldfields weekend after this weekend. Has anyone who has been in the area able to recommend accommodation in the area. Not looking at camping more like a motel.

Cheers :)

There is Hill End Lodge.
Other than that there are rooms at the pub (Royal Hotel) or a couple of B&B's.
That weekend NAPFA are holding their AGM at Glendora Campground so there might be a few forum members out there?
There's also Tanwarra Lodge at Sofala about 35km from Hill End right on the Turon.

I can recommend Hill End Lodge, friendly owners, good restaurant, decent but basic rooms, reasonable price, couldn't complain at all.

Hill End lodge is good, the restaurant they own at the complex does a good steak too. Owners are friendly and helpful too.

My brother and I are going to the Tambaroora area to do some detecting. We do not know the area but we will be staying for 1 week so we should cover areas around the near by towns. We both would be grateful for some locations around the area where we can detect. Any help would be gratefully accepted. We are both in our 70,s but can get around quite well. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanking you.

You can detect anywhere on the Hill End common, it's a huge area and gold has been found in plenty of places there. Just don't go detecting in the national park areas at Golden Gully and don't jump fences onto private property and you should be fine.

From what I have read hill end is pretty heavy going . How would a 67 yr old (no real fit ) handle the slopes or is there some flat ground there to have a pan or swing

I to is 67, just got back from hill end a week ago , crook hip stiff knees and back , you just gotta do what you can good stick to get up and down with a real good set of knee pads and plenty of patience just take it in your stride,, didn't pan couldn't break the ice lol
